On our way west across Kansas, traveling hwy 56 instead of the interstate for a change of pace. City park with 4 back-in sites with 30/50 amp electric and water hookup. There is a bathroom building but unfortunately it hadnt been cleaned in awhile. Has a nice playground and is only $12.50 a night! When you arrive just call the number posted on the bathroom building and someone will come and unlock the electric pedestal.

Ranger stopped by this morning taking pictures of trash left by previous campers. He said they are in the process of shutting this free area on the north side of the river down. Camping in the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area in Salida East on the south side of the river will still be available, though this is a fee area and sites are reservable at cpwshop.com

Right on the river, small and quiet park. Shower house is close and clean. Gated so no lookyloos doing drive-thrus.

Friendly hosts, clean bathrooms, level sites, swimming beach, water view. This is how its done!

What a dump,....This National Park campground is only 12 miles from our nation's Capitol. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Dirty, run down, poor signage, dead/ dangerous trees. Come on, USA we can do better!
