This park is in the suburbs-Actually in a neighborhood. It's a bit out-of-the-way, but we were looking for fun free things to do and see. This is a great playground! If you need a break, let the kids run around and play. The pirate theme is awesome and my daughter loved playing pirate with the other kids. There is a water fountain, a covered picnic area, and a non-flush toilet. Local sculptor and master welder, John Brommel, welded a masterful rendering of a mysterious Easter Island head. The sculpture is titled “Moai Dude”, due to the whimsical smirk added to the giant rust patina face, giving the dude a surfer-like expression. The Moai is a realistic recreation and almost looks to be carved from stone, and stands 11 feet tall.

I wasn't sure we were in the right place, but I always feel that way about gravel roads. It's a very small park packed with a lot of history. My daughter enjoyed the giant Chief Wapello letters on the ground, and there were some great climbing trees. My only disappointment was that the graves are fenced (which I can understand the reasoning), but they are still close enough to read and get photos.
