To reach the lighthouse, you'll need to park and walk almost a half mile. It's easy terrain for most of the way, some is concrete and blacktop, some is wooden dock, some is a narrow, finely-crushed rock path. Nothing steep. The path is only open to Michigan residents Tuesdays and Thursdays, we were out-of-state visitors and were allowed in on a Monday. It's in a gated community, the gate attendant lets you in.
You can see the lighthouse from across the harbor at a public beach, but you can't walk up to it from that side.
Turkey Tom is pretty cool, but don’t look for him where the Roadtrippers map has him marked. He’s near a turkey farm on the south side of Frazee, not far from Hwy 10, up on a hill.
Beautiful grounds, and friendly staff. Recommend going inside the incredible temple, they provide legs and arm coverings if you need them, just be sure to take off your shoes before going up the temple steps -- use the women's and men's shoe removal rooms on either side.
Visit one of the most unique and beautiful Capitol buildings in the U.S.
It's home to the nation's only single-body legislature, called the unicameral. Unique and historic mosaic tiles cover the floors, and a man sowing seeds sits atop, known as the golden sower. A unique shape, we locals affectionally refer to it as the penis of the plains.
If you have kids under the age of 9, this is a must-visit children's museum. Plenty of activities and photo ops, hands-on rotating exhibits and permanent fixtures like a water play center, rocket ship, theater and stage, TV studio, vet and doctor offices, treehouse, prairie dog holes, an airplane, semi cab, police motorcycle and more. Did I mention two face-painting stations? We've been to children's museums across the country and this is one of the best.
Only open for public tours the first Sunday of each month during April-October.
Otherwise, a beautiful place.
