This is one of the largest state parks in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. There are several full hookup sites in the center of the campground but do not have shade. We chose an electric only site in a wooded area. You can see your neighbors but are not particularly close. In the evening, the campground was quiet; however, we were there only on weeknights. Firewood is available in the campground and about 3 miles away toward Grayling. If you have time, the interpretive walk in the virgen forest is worth the time as is a float trip on the Upper Manistee river.

Generally pleasant municipally owned campground. $30 a night with electricity, dump station available. In mid-February we were the only campers. There is a small playground and a sandy beach on a generous size man-made lake. The staff was friendly. Five dollars for a load of wood delivered to us. The campground loses a star due to the cleanliness of the pit toilets.
Agree with other reviewers. Clean, well maintained facility. Owner contacted us before our arrival to see if we had any questions and ask our ETA. Inexpensive laundry and excellent showers. Yes, there is highway noise and train horns but would only be a problem if you needed open windows. Maybe not a destination but a recommended stopover.
