We loved our stay at the Glamp Camp! It is in downtown TorC and only a few bocks from the brewery and several cafes & eateries. The staff were incredibly friendly and the options of private or communal soaking tubs or jacuzzi were wonderful. The sites were perfectly sized for smaller rigs and had hanging chairs from the trees to relax in. Even though this is “downtown,” it was very quiet and felt secluded thanks to privacy fencing surrounding the property. We have already recommended Glamp Camp to friends and will definitely be back the next time we’re in TorC.

Access may be impossible following heavy rains as the road to it may wash out. We were able to get through, but left a day early due to saturated grounds and rain predicted the following days. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and the campground would be very nice during dry times, but lots of puddling that only started to resolve after four days.

Our site (4) was very nice, however many sites would have the fire pit and picnic tables on the driver side if you back in. Still nice spots, just on the wrong side for back in sites. The tokens for showers give you 4 minutes and provided hot water. Shower # 1 had the best pressure of the few we tried.

Finally, if you dislike the sounds of helicopters, this wouldn’t be a great place for you. The Navy’s Outlying Airfield is very close, so lots of helo training going on, often into the evening. Proximity to SD and price make this a bargain, it just has some caveats to be aware of. We’d go back in dryer months, just avoid rainy periods there.

We stayed here for three nights on our way across the US. The host welcomed us as we entered the campground and provided us information regarding available sites (chosen upon arrival), WiFi, and free laundry. The bathhouse was not in service and the laundry machines at the campground were not working, but with full hook-ups we didn’t need the bathhouse and the laundry the host directed us to had several washers and dryers, so made doing our three loads quick and easy.

Ideally, enter from Singleton (South Gate), but the north gate (only one open on the weekend, was easily navigable with a 34’ bumper-pull. The sites are level, well maintained and had a picnic table and cement pad. The sites aren’t huge, but you’re also not on top of your neighbor. Completely adequate. The back row of sites backs up to the woods, which seems to be home to a deer herd. We saw several every evening around sunset. The neighbors, who live there full-time, were very friendly, it was very quiet, and extremely convenient to the commissary.

It certainly isn’t state park-like, but it’s a nice spot to stay for a while to visit the surroundings, eat some good BBQ, and stock up on non-perishables for the travels ahead. We actually wished we had reserved a few more nights to explore more of Memphis and Meeman-Shelby Forest Stare Park, which had some nice hiking. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed for a week in the beginning of September. The base has easy access from Glenn Highway and the sites, nestled within the pines, are mostly good sized with water and power and a fair amount of space between them. The one bathhouse that was open (the other had been closed since we’d passed through six weeks earlier) had two washers and dryers. Unfortunately, the bathrooms were not serviced at all during our stay, so the TP ran out after a few days, it got a solid “F” for cleanliness and two of the four showers in the men’s room were out of order. If you have to stay in Anchorage, it’s probably still the best option, but the rec department really needs to step up their game considering how much money this campground brings in during the short season.

The dump is covered by a grate, so you can’t fit the 3” drain tube in it, so not the most pleasant experience. Fortunately, we were only dumping grey water. Also, the spigot leaks a lot and seems to have poor water pressure. Took almost 15 minutes to fill a 36 gallon tank.

The dump site is just a mile or so off 80, so easy to access. I recommend going passed E 4th St and around the block coming down S Wyoming Ave to make an approach from the east. Approaching from the west and turning around in the bus parking was doable, but a street sign made it very tight for our 32’ trailer. Would be easier for a smaller camper.

The dump site was good and had a water spigot with a hose attached. No signage as to if the water is potable, but the city water shut-off is right next to the spigot, so operated from the assumption that the city water was fine for filling the fresh water tank. Antelope was an easy stop when leaving town to gas up.

This met our needs for two nights while waiting for a spot at Lost Dutchman. There were three events going on, so there were sections of the road blocked off, making our GPS very confused. Once at campground office, they were very friendly and efficient. The sites are mostly sardine style within open gravel lots that pooled up in places during the rains we had while there. They did put us in a lot near the event we were going to, so that was pretty cool. Basically, beware that GPS might not bring you to an accessible route and keep your expectations low and you shouldn’t be disappointed. If there’s an event going on that you want to attend, it’s an easy/convenient way to stay and make the most of the event; otherwise, you may be happier elsewhere.

The road in is gravel for the last 2.5 miles, but was in good shape as of this posting. A bit soft on the side after a rain, but easily navigable even when encountering oncoming traffic. There were seven campers there the night we stayed, and room for all of us.

The two pit privies were relatively clean and stocked with TP. There were multiple trash bins dispersed around the camping area and even a can recycle bin by the privies. The ground was stable despite a hard rain the previous day.

We were welcomed by songs of the various birds enjoying the little bit of lake that remained. I would not recommend coming here thinking you were going to enjoy paddling the waters, although it could be done, but it’s a great spot for peace and quiet, walking, or birdwatching. If you have pets, you may want to avoid the little loop under the two trees. There were a lot of goathead burrs in that area. Walked through once and picked five from our poor boys paws. Other than that, it was a fantastic spot and we plan to be back.

Access was pretty good with about 1.5 miles from a dirt road with some washboard sections. Be aware if coming from the west, GPS may take you in the wrong access road, but it runs parallel to the correct one and you can meet back up with it beyond the field.

BLM seems to be installing power and water to sites. Currently, it is still free and a bit of a free-for-all. One camper near the entrance appears to have taken up residence and their dogs, as well as several others we encountered, wander freely, so be aware if you bring your own pooch.

There were only 6 other campers last night. The ones that appear to be permanently settled here occasionally did high-speed passes through the campground and screamed like coyotes around dusk. Then another camper was laying on her horn a bit later and seemed to be highly intoxicated as she continued screaming and yelling obscenities at someone into the evening. Fortunately, things did quiet down before late, but it did sully our experience.

My guess is that once it becomes an established campground, these sorts of issues will be resolved and we may just have come at the wrong time with a few folks who don’t appreciate the serenity that this spot would have otherwise offered. When things were quiet, it was a very nice spot along the Colorado with distant mountain view’s.

Access was easy and the spots were level with 50 amp service, but water had been turned off due to temperatures. We found a spot and called the main fairground office who told us we could park anywhere and across multiple spots since they are typically back-ins in an open parking lot. There are no bathroom/shower, but they do have a dump station. It is a dusty parking lot, but it did feel safe as security regularly patrols it after normal hours. It’s fine as a jumping-off spot to explore the area, just nothing special and very dusty. Keep your expectations relatively low and you will not be disappointed.
