This campground is a no frills campground on the lake in the heart of North Dakota. Dakota waters sits on a beautiful piece of property over looking Lake Sakakawea.

Pros: you cannot beat the view for the price! And there is not much in the way of camp grounds around the area! Campground was very quiet on the Sunday and Monday we were there but I’m sure it is much more vibrant during the weekend. Our site (30) is an end site that was huge with a beautiful view of the bay and path down to the water. Very big rig friendly and welcoming. Boat launch onsite. Great dump station and fantastic playground for the kids.

Cons: the site was severely unlevel. A rig with an auto leveling system as many of the rigs in the park had were well equipped to handle that. Ours needed every leveling block we had and then some. Made us feel like absolute newbies when we have been RVing for years. The sites are all grass and somewhat maintained. Our site had the extra land mowed but the actual site was all tall grass. The non-seasonal sites are only electric and water is split between two sites with very low pressure. It took over an hour to fill our 40 gallon fresh tank. The restaurant is so so food, may be better on weekends.

Over all it was a great stop for us while my husband was working in ND.

This was a great KOA and perfect for what we needed! We had made reservations at another park on the Washington side of the river, but when we showed up they were closed. Called this KOA and they were able to get us a spot after hours and were very accommodating.

We stayed in the 100s section close to the entrance in a pull through site. As it was the off season, the campground was not yet busy. We could imagine the closer together sites may get crowded in the summer. When we stay here again we’d probably reserve a back in site on the edge of the campground as they had the most privacy.

Typical in KOA Holiday fashion, they had plenty of amenities suitable for the whole family including the furry family members. Their Kamp K9 was very clean and had fun play equipment. Our son would have also loved to be able to play on the equipment but wasn’t able to due to the limited amount of time we were at the park.

There is a breakfast spot right down the road that was delicious as well and very close to all Astoria/seaside have to offer.

We came in the off season when most of the campground was not being used. Still, the RV section we were in was almost full. Looked like a lot of full time residents.

Our site had a level cement pad with freshly mulched area behind and privacy fences between the sites. Sites were a little close together but they had one heck of a view of the mountains.

We came to this KOA in the off season when only 4 other full time residents were in the park. They must have recently received heavy rain as well as the entire park had wash outs, ruts, and debris.

When we reserved the site, the host called and asked if we could like a pull through site rather than a back in as we were getting in late. Let me tell you, we should have gone with the pull through site. It was difficult to maneuver even our little 25 ft motorhome into the back in site at night. The park less straight than the map shows and the sites are very close together. No amenities were open during our stay.

Dunewood campground is a nice campground down the street from both IDNP and the Indiana dunes State park. Sites are spread out so there is privacy but no hook ups at all. There is freshwater by the dump station and bathhouse/restrooms in the middle of all the sites that were relatively clean. Site 45 is a back in site with a rather steep incline. We had to use leveling blocks to boost the truck up enough to not scrape the stabilizer jacks on the front of our 22 ft TT. There are train tracks near by but aside from the occasional train whistle were not heard. In IDNP, the west beach is better maintained but much more crowded. We went to kemil beach which is more rocky but less people and no fee to access. Over all good experience at this campground.

Nice campground! Spacious sites with water and electric we were at Cherokee site 70. Not the most level site but nothing a couple leveling blocks couldn’t fix. Pretty lake about an hour from Tulsa.
