Doors were locked. But it’s stunning to drive up to. We called the monks number posted on the door and we were directed to an Abbey near by in Subiaco and enjoyed some Abbey brewed beers.

Honestly underwhelming. The structure outside is gorgeous but you aren’t allow to explore around the building at all. The decor in the interior is outdated and garish and completely takes away from the view and the architecture. They also play really cheesy pops classical music, which was really terrible. It was advertised that we would be sitting in silence, even on the paper we were given at the door, and it was anything but. We wondered when Kenny G. would start playing on the radio.

Acoustics in the building are dimmed by the gaudy fabric used for the pews which is very unfortunate.

Could be gorgeous.

It’s been restored and is now for sale. I toured the property with a realtor friend last week. Taxes on the house are so cheap. Someone should scoop this up for an Air BnB listing. It’s very reasonably priced for being on the Nation Historic Places registry. History on the property and who Dr. Chism was, is a bit wishy washy. They believe that he birthed all of the babies in the county at that time.

Gorgeous restoration. And an old church next door. The family of Dr. Chism still owns the house and lives nearby. There’s a road that leads to woods at the back of the property, FULL of ticks. But they told us slave graves were back there, but unfortunately we believe it’s been paved over to make a water tower for the area.

Incredible. Easy access , and parking onsite. Someone maintains the grass and the county allows people to explore the structure. Gorgeous. Graffiti was trashy and unique. Got some amazing pics. Would definitely return. You could totally host a rave here.

I definitely don’t recommend getting too close. This is fenced off with no trespassing signs around it and in someone’s front yard.
