While the drive through the park is special on its own, the real gem is the Hunting Island Lighthouse. It's a mere $2 to climb the landmark and whether your a photography buff, like me, or simply like a good panoramic view - this is a must do.
When you're done with the that your head Dow. To the beach to see a landscape of beautiful driftwood.
What makes this spot so special is the guided or solo boat tour through the Black waters of the Cypress Garden. This is a short 30-40 paddle. I opted for the solo paddle, which comes complimentary as part of the $10 entry fee.
There are arrows guiding you through the maze of trees, under two bridges (duck your head), and past alligators and turtles.

If you're going to visit the Whirligigs then your first stop MUST be the restoration operation just a couple blocks from the park itself. The restorers will take ample time to walk you through the story of Vollis, the history of the whirligigs and show you each piece in progress. This will give you a better speciation when you go to the park.
I was told to visit the parks Facebook page as the website isn't consistently maintained.
There were 11 whirligigs featured in the park during my visit. Warning! Do not stand directly under these giants as it's not unheard of for pieces to come loose.
