Showers were filled with trash, water was a few degrees above freezing. You can park for free across the lake and there are no hookups here so as far as I'm concerned the shower is what you're paying $40/night for.

Pros: Staff is great, camp is quiet, quick access to a convenience store, wifi, cell service is very fast on T-Mobile
Cons: Showers are very rough, only one of three worked and the one working shower's light was very dim. Shower floors have currently been ripped out so there's only grout remaining. Bathrooms not very well stocked (no toilet paper, no soap).

The Salton Sea gave us some beautiful sunsets and the characteristic algae smell was very faint during our trip.
We stayed at the massive slab of parking lot near the visitor center in site #7 and have no complaints about the site. There are new bathrooms but no showers. There are showers at the "New Camp" sites but they're currently (March 2022) broken and the doors are locked.
Past reviewers remarked that the T-Mobile service was good enough for streaming--this no longer appears to be the case. The LTE is extremely slow on T-Mobile even though it shows as four bars.
Our Winegard (AT&T-based) got great service on its data plan, however.
The trains woke us up once at night.

Imagine looking out the back of your RV and seeing an ocean of clouds far below. Hard to beat that for a view and the price reflects it. You should be warned, however, that you're going to pay $150 a night and be limited to 6 minutes with a 5 minute reset period for your showers. I can't quite square the two and since no explanation is given for the limits I'm knocking off two full stars for it.
Wi-Fi was very fast.

Stayed here for a night on the way to Vegas. The Joshua trees were beautiful and so was the sunset. Our 25' class C RV handled the large cattle grate and dirt road just fine.
We stayed in the large open area just past the windmill.
T-Mobile service was fast enough for web browsing but not for streaming.
