Quite a few big rig/RV spots to the left as you enter the stop (cars go right, as usual). If you need to stay in the Ashland area and don't have anywhere else to park, this is a good option, because they allow up to 12 hours to stop. But don't miss it, because there are no other northbound rest stops near here. You will, of course, hear some noise from passing traffic and big rigs parked near you. But overall, a nice spot with additional bonus of info about the state.

I camped here for a few weeks at the end of April 2022, isolating with COVID, and still loved the place. Real easy to find. But if there has been ANY rain or snow, do NOT go back this road. VERY deep, sticky red mud! Otherwise, beautiful, peaceful and lots of good walking with gorgeous big red pines. I love the sound of the breeze sloughing through their needles. You can occasionally hear traffic noise because you're real close to the interstate, but it never bothered me.

There seemed to be lots of different spaces along the road, and all our neighbors were friendly. The road farther back provides a nice walking path, especially if you have pets. The Pilot is right down the road for munchies, gas, showers and bathroom. Cell signal was good enough for me to work regularly.

You can dump for cheap on your way out. Turn right at the Pilot to go over I-40 to Camp Navajo. Stop at the entry gate and tell them you want to use the RV dump. They'll send you to the left. It's a drive-thru loop and on the honor system at $5/dump. I don't recall if there was cleaning water but I think so.

I stayed here hoping to be able to sit out a pretty serious wind storm, but it ended up being great also because the converter went out on my 21-year-old TT and I was able to order it the day I got there, stay overnight, and pick it up in the morning for me to install myself (though obviously installation was available thru their service dept.).
The first night I boondocked beside the building. The second night, the parts manager told me to avail myself of the free power hookups (they have three stations in the lot between the main camp store and the service building), which are available from 5:00 PM - 7:45 AM, when traffic picks up from customers.
It's noisy, because it's right along I-81, but I didn't find it annoying enough to not be able to sleep. You can always wear earplugs if needed. I appreciated that the lot was open enough overhead to allow my solar power system to charge my battery while the converter wasn't working.
I found the staff inside friendly and most helpful, and felt very welcome and safe staying here. Would def stay again.

All I needed was an overnight spot, and this Walmart had a moderate-size lot with plenty of room for big rigs. I didn't bother asking permission, because there were already three other rigs there, but I did go in to buy a rotisserie chicken for dinner.

I parked along the far back of the lot near the main street. It was a little noisy until about 10PM, when noise settled down until about 5-6 am. There are lots of lights but my blinds took care of that, and they made me feel safer. No problems here!

We were having mechanical issues, so we ended up staying several nights over a holiday weekend until we could get to a mechanic shop. Stayed in a back-in spot way in back and had no problems. Noisy trucks all night but that’s a truck stop. The farther away you stay from the building, the quieter it will be. All the amenities you’d expect at a truck stop except RV dump. That ‘s gone and it sounds like permanently. Would have given it five stars but for the amount of trash lying in the parking areas that never got picked up the whole time we were there.

I camped here in October 2022. It’s gorgeous and nice sites, but really scout around. There are TONS of long-term squatters and tweakers there. LOTS of trashy-looking camps you can see from the road, and many that you can't. My spot had a lot of broken glass that I cleaned up. The rangers told me they're aware of the problem.

I had an altercation with a creepy guy it turned out just got out of prison. He invaded our camp and had anger management issues. But I also had a great experience meeting a friendly, kind gal who camps there all the time, so I think it's luck of the draw.

I don’t think I’d camp alone here again, but I would with at least one other person. It’s real close to Flag for shopping, food, auto repair and anything else you could want. They have a Walmart and nice affordable laundromat on Main St. Beautiful sunset views from the site I was in, with fairly well-maintained roads. Got to see some incredible thunderheads and other cool clouds. The skies were never dull.

Entrance to my campsite was muddy with standing water, so I spent an afternoon moving loose rocks to fill in the deeper tire track puddles and that took care of it.

Lovely place on the outskirts of Flagstaff. I loved this place, but beware: They are very strict and will ticket you with no warning of you overstay your two weeks. I met a delightful group of other campers I walked with daily along an abandoned stretch of old Rt. 66, and several of them got ticketed for being one day over. So many of us drove to another nearby site and continued camping together.

Welch Rd. has a wide open feel on gently rolling, grassy hills, with beautiful sunset views. You can see and hear the old scenic steam train that comes through toward the Grand Canyon almost daily. It's actually far enough away that the whistle sounds peaceful and lonesome rather than shrill or annoying.

I used my stay as a jumping-off point to go visit the Grand Canyon, which was a perfect all-day trip. The nearby KOA on Rt. 60 (I think) has friendly, affordable service to fill your propane and (I believe) water. Just up the road in Bellemont is a Pilot for gas, and across I-40 is Fort Navajo base for a cheap $5 tank dump.

I'm not real sensitive to noise, but you can hear highway traffic at night. It's not bad.

This is now a Chevron, despite what all the maps say. Friendly, helpful staff. Propane fill (NOT exchange) and sanitary dump with available water all in one convenient corner at front of lot. Enter from side street from south, hard left into lot, follow pavement markings. Hug that southwest corner. Dump is $10 now (April 2024) and runs automatically via credit/debit card. You can’t lift the lid to the dump hole without paying, but the lid is heavy enough not to need a rock to keep it steady while flowing. Everything works and is clean and easy to use. Air for tires is also there. If you have a rig longer than 27’, you may have trouble here, depending where your dump hose spout is located.

My first impression wasn't great, as the first question asked when I called for a reservation was how old my rig is. When I told them 1996, they insisted I first email photos. They called back, deeming me acceptable. But when I got here, I took a walk and saw quite a few obviously longterm rigs that were way worse than mine -- some downright nasty looking. But I was able to reserve a couple nights (then extended one).
Because I arrived after 3 PM (mid-November), the office was closed. They had taken a one-night deposit via credit card, but I had to stop and check in with the camp host (a nice work camper named Bonnie) to pay the balance in cash. She golf-carted ahead of me to show me my back-in site, and helped me back in properly. The site was nice and wide and fairly level, to the point where I didn't really even need any blocks.
They have full hookups, and water lines have heat strips for those times like now, when nighttime temps dip below freezing. However, there are no onsite showers or bathrooms, so you must be fully self-contained, and they make you aware of that in their online presences.
It's bright and sunny, perfect for this time of year, the pavement is in good shape on the roads, and the sites are generously sized.
I wouldn't want to stay here too long, but as a way point en route to somewhere else, it was perfect, especially because they accepted my Passport America, making the cost $19/night instead of $38. Very affordable.
One odd thing: I had four bars of Verizon LTE, but for some reason my phone wouldn't work here unless I got on wifi. Which I had to do via my own Sprint hotspot because their wifi didn't reach back this far on the lot.

I was impressed from the get-go by Tiffany in the office. Cheerful and welcoming on the phone, she was even more so in person. Helped me get propane immediately so I could pay for it and my site in the same transaction. She’s friendly, funny and kind, and really on the ball. If I owned a business with employees, I’d hire her to train them for customer service!

As stated in other reviews, the sites aren’t intended for long term beauty stays but for a nice overnight on your way. However, I wouldn’t have hesitated to stay here one more night if I weren’t trying to stay out in front of a winter storm. It’s a pretty park, the amenities are fantastic, it’s quiet even though close to the road, and I felt safe.

The welcome center really is that, with lots of wood giving you the feeling of being in a ski lodge. Warm, comfortable and containing the office; a lounge; laundry room with $1.50 wash and $1.00 dry on six clean, modern, well-maintained machines; a large meeting room with lots of tables and seating, where morning coffee is served; and two very large unisex bathroom suites, each with two toilets, sinks and showers. The latter are new and very nicely appointed, with all the hot water you could want. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and hope to!
