Very beautiful piece of history. When you step into the building it's an immediate reminder of the hotel from The Shining. Before I talk about what's good about it, I'll tell you what's not. For the price point you'd expect a bigger room with a better bed and although I know it's an old building, there are ways to restore an old building so that it suits the modern need of privacy. You can hear other people in the hallway, in the next room, and even up the hallway in other rooms behind closed doors. Speaking of the door, it rattled a bit because of the breeze that came through the closed window. There were a couple other things that kept us from sleeping well that were not the fault of the staff or building itself but whoever had the dog that kept barking and the baby that kept crying made it difficult to get a full night's rest. Now, on with the good...the staff was great, the location is perfect and everything from the lounge to the ballroom are just gorgeous! Was that worth the total cost? I personally don't think so.
Meh. The environment is really cool, very good concept, but...my fish tacos sucked. My husband and I were so excited to eat here and were both totally bummed it didn't live up to our admitted spoiled foodie expectations. Everything tastes overly pickled, it just overpowered everything. However, our server was great and very personable and she offered me a different plate of my choice altogether without making a stink over it. I ordered the BLT with the herbed mayo and it was much better. That is why I give them 3 stars. Maybe we are just spoiled rotten with great food and perhaps we visited on an off day. They seem to want to please their customers so hopefully they'll reconfigure the way they do their fish tacos in the future.
Awesome place!!! The George A. Romero museum is right in the center of town and is also a must see!!
Very cool place!! Just go before 5 pm because that's when they close the gates every evening...
We never got to try the food or enjoy the environment as described because we couldn't find it. We drove around the block a good 5 or 6 times (even asked a couple local fellas if they knew where it was) until we gave up and went to the Thyme Bistro instead. It was 7:30 pm on a Saturday night and the entire town was dark as can be. I suggest a big, bright, neon sign that let's people know you exist.
Went down this past Sunday (10/13/2013) and the church has been demolished and there is new construction being developed. You should probably remove this spot.
Don't ask to take photos though. It's a no-no.
