If caught, you can expect a $350-$450.00 ticket. That's assuming they don't arrest you (which if you're not scrapping, doing drugs, or conspiring to commit other crimes, they will typically "only" charge you with the Class C fine (same as a speeding ticket, but more expensive)! Consider yourself warned.

No (known) evidence remains of the SCC, except for the entryway, AKA: "The Texas Doors." The project was never completed, the tunnels were flooded, and it is now actively operating as a chemical company.
I've driven past it and the above-ground architecture is unremarkable. It's hard to believe we blew around 5 BILLION tax-dollars on something that you would never guess ever existed! The current owner is a company called Magnablend.

Don't waste your time on this one, its glory days are long gone.

UPDATED review (12/3/2016): sadly, nearly all of the former Swift plant was demolished a couple of months ago. One or two buildings remain, but the entire area is being razed and prepped for new real estate investments - I believe the majority of this is being headed by an investment group called Majestic Realty. So long, old friend. I will miss this place.

The majority of the town has been demolished. However, there are still a few buildings standing. The history alone makes this trip worthwhile.

The massive complex of structures are now mostly lying in heaps of sunken earth, but a handful still survive (one even survived a demolition attempt). There are three or four structures still remaining, but that will soon change. As of July 2015, the company that recently purchased the property has made their intentions public, and the fate of Swift Armory is (mostly) sealed. These structures will soon be taken down to make room for a massive resort community. It's a shame. This is/was a huge part of Fort Worth's history.
* Noteworthy: Swift Armory was the location used by HBO in their "Prison Break" series. The main structure became a Mexican prison for one season in the mid 2000's. Guard Towers were erected for the occasion and are still standing today.

The architecture is still gorgeous, even if the structure is only a shell if its former self. I'm particularly fond of the beautiful bay windows, some of which extend two stories or more. Sadly, as time wears on, the location steadily worsens and is probably beyond rehabilitation at this point, even if someone wanted to do so. The flooring is unstable at best, very dangerous at worst. You can actually feel the bowing of the wood underneath your feet in some places. Nature and gravity have had an even worse impact on the roof. The official description here speaks of rooms. Many, if not most, especially on higher floors, have not withstood these tests of time. I have not seen the entire structure, and honestly, I'm not certain that all of the sections are accessible (or really worth the extra effort). The main and center edifice is by far the most memorable. There is still a structure standing in the back of the property, dwarfed in size by its parent building, but I find myself drawn to that one as well. When photographing, I sometimes even prefer the symmetrical features of the smaller annex.
So here's my CAVEAT(S):
1. This property is watched very closely by local authorities and citizens alike. The Sherman police will not tolerate trespassers, and if caught, arrest is a high possibility. Probably higher than would be considered normal.
2. I cannot emphasize enough how unsound the structure is as of early 2015. The dilapidation is extreme, and I even know someone that fell through the floor due to these structural compromises. I highly recommend only viewing from a distance, but if you insist on attempting to see the inside and are willing to accept the associated risks, DO NOT GO ALONE! If anything happens, you don't want to be there without anyone to assist you! But really, just don't risk it.

The arboretum is really spectacular. I can't believe I live here and only started going to the arboretum a year ago. This is a wonderful place, for both children and adults. It's affordable and if you're a local, I highly recommend purchasing a yearly membership. After about three visits or less, the membership pays for itself (free parking and it is valid for many, if not most, major nationwide arboretums. They can provide a list of all the participating locations. The new children's section is a real treat too! I only wish they stayed open late enough to catch a nice sunset there... they are only open till 5PM (but they are open every day of the year except Christmas and Easter).
