*** AS OF MAY 2017: CHECK to be certain Highway 1 is passible from wherever you're coming from! Recent landslides have taken out the only viable route (bridge) in the Big Sur region to this area, depending on your direction from! ***

Tons of trails throughout here. This was once part of a massive military base (Fort Ord), and is now home to miles of partly used but mostly abandoned structures, trails, and various other things. Lots of photo ops too.

Excellent beach. Check out the nearby Point Lobos as well.
