San Felipe is known for its extreme tidal changes. You can literally walk out 200+ yards during low tide. This campground is on the beach and will give you great access. (Lot's of sand dollars at low tide too.)

What didn't work for us was the strong electrical surge that shut down our power so often, we could not make coffee. Our surge protector will not allow anything over a certain amount (not sure what that is) and it was exceeded consistently. Electricity is also what costs $55 instead of $35 for no hookups. The office was closed when we had the problems and did not open before we left the following morning so no appeal for a refund was possible. Don't pay for hookups before you test the power.

At 4:48 am, we were rudely awakened by the security patrol that came by the front of our RV with flashing red and blue lights. While this may be normalized in Baja, it is a call to action for Gringos. Never could get back to sleep. I'm not sure if they think the lights are a deterrent to the bad guys or they are just clueless.

Then there is the beautiful ocean view bar but it is at the top of the hill. The campsites are at the bottom. It is a healthy hike up that hill with no stairs, no wheelchair accessibility. I'm sure it's a great place to be in warm weather but we never seem to be there when it's warm. Even the bartenders are in down jackets. The inside restaurant/bar is basically a tiled room with a bar, folding tables and chairs so flimsy that some of the bigger folks had issues. Even the pizza was a disappointment. It was frozen crust and sauce to which they added toppings and ran under a broiler.

Bottom line: If location is all that matters and having electrical, a comfortable bar/restaurant and an uninterrupted night's sleep is low priority, this is your place. The management is warm and friendly and if you are full-time or a retired snowbird, you are in good company.

This is a transient stop for many RVers, meaning you drive all day, pull up to a place that has full hook up’s and is safe, get up early and keep going. For this you pay $40+ and we’ve come to accept that. However, keeping the dump site a secret is a deal breaker. Had an employee not come in early, we’d still be looking. For those of you who are desperate enough to stay in a place that has obvious disregard for its transient guests, it’s site 100. Nothing on their map or in their printed instructions will tell you this. No excuse for that. We will not stay here again, unless there are no other choices. RJourney is the responsible party here, not the good folks who staff the office. AND… they took away all the dumpsters!

Very nice woman running the office with a sweet black dog. She was helpful but obviously not making the decisions for this RV park. Lots of long-term campers and minimal distance between campsites. 50 amp only but they supply a free converter. No WiFi. Bathhouse was closed. Still, it is a safe overnight stop with water, electricity and a dump n the site. There is a restaurant on-site with singing wait staff from the local music school but that is the best thing I can say about it. Food was less than mediocre and don’t go near the wine in hot weather. Overall, this place is tired but safe. Best thing about it is proximity to the homemade pies at the Mobil station (walking distance.) Seriously. If you like pie, don’t miss it.

This campground is inside the park and the only one that is. The views are spectacular and you don’t have to drive to see them. They are literally in front of your camper.

A few things to note:

There is an $8 per person fee to enter the area and NO park passes or discounts of any kind apply. If you stay outside the park and drive in each day, you pay the $8 per person, each time.

Sites 12 & 13 have obstructed views (the bath house) and they will not discount the fees. This isn’t such a big deal if you plan to walk out to the rim each morning, which many do (with chairs and coffee mugs).

Know that you cannot drive an RV or Motorcycle onto the 17-mile loop and if you take your own vehicle it will suffer. This was easily the worst (and treacherous in some parts) park road I have ever encountered. Paying for the tour is worth every penny. (Private was $180)

Last but not least, the women who staff the office (open 7am-9pm) seem very unhappy. They were not truthful about availability of sites when we complained about the obstructed views and seldom answer the phone. It’s a popular place and they are probably overworked and underpaid. You can coax a smile but you gotta work for it.

Overall, you can justify the $95 per night (no E, W, S) if you get there in time to take the sunset tour, relish the sunrise then leave by 11 am.

This is credit card only. No cash accepted.

This is a clean, efficient RV Park whose sites are large (long, concrete pad) and well-equipped (full hook-ups, some with sewer, and garbage cans shared between 2 sites) but with no trees and very little green. The location is great for visiting Napa and all it has to offer.

The adjacent road is heavily trafficked and very noisy in the early morning, You will not sleep without ear plugs. Still, this would be a good place for a safe over-night, nothing long-term, except for one major thing. The camp host (very nice, friendly guy) has no control over site selection. There is a system that assigns spaces based on an algorithm. This is something I've never experienced and not only is it a bad sign of things to come, it results in a very frustrating experience.

With approximately 36 sites, 8 occupied when we arrived, it left plenty of sites that had no one on either side, yet we were placed between two larger RVs. At check-in we asked how to request a second night if we wanted to stay over and were told we would have to unhook and drive around to the office so the "algorithm" could reassign a site.

Hard to believe we've reached this point with all the other problems that burdens the industry. I encourage you not to support this system. When we reach the day of automation with no people involved in the process, it will be a bad thing, not a good one. This is not COVID driven as the camp host still greets you, takes your credit card and gives you the WiFi password and your site, assigned by the algorithm. Feels like a dress rehearsal for having all things done online with no need for the camp host and no opportunity to change things that are not a good fit for your individual needs.

Guerrero Negro is a good stopping point in either direction when traversing the Baja peninsula. If it is a true overnight for you, may as well be here. The electricity is spotty at best and you should never use it without a surge protector. The water pressure is good. What makes us stop here is the restaurant.

Better than average food and lovely people serve it. We are guessing they own the land, the park, the restaurant and the whale tour business.

Be careful with your dogs. They have guard dogs that appear vicious, but prolly aren't. Without knowing you shouldn't take the chance.

Loreto is such a sweet town with great food and people. However, it is not big rig friendly and the narrow city streets can be a nightmare. The one RV park we have always counted on is Loreto Shores and while they aren't that big rig friendly either, there are enough pull through sites to make it feasible.

Loreto is divided north/south by an arroyo and Loreto Shores is on the southside. It's tricky driving through the arroyo but it's doable. Of course you can only attempt it if it's open. For the foreseeable future, it will be closed as they are building a bridge across the arroyo. (YAY!)

The folks at LS sent us an understated text message saying there was road work and it might be hard to access from town, so we should take the road behind the airport. I wrote back for more specific information and they never responded. So when our GPS said to turn on the dirt road just past the airport, we thought it was a mistake. It wasn't. The only way to get to LS during "working hours" is with a southern approach, on that dirt road. Trust your GPS on this one.

Do not trust management. In other times we've been greeted by a wonderful man who obviously cares for the property and his guests. In this experience the park was left in the hands of a much younger man who seemed ambivalent about guests, park conditions and general assistance. You are on your own when he is in the office.

Sites are so close you can hear your neighbor cough in the morning but again, this is the only easy option for big rigs. I'm hoping that changes because this is a great stop in Baja.
