The area where the spots are was a little smelly from recent flood or big rain but the park is kept nice. There looks to be 4 sites. Grassy, level, back in spots with free electric... water isn’t far away but not close enough to hook up to. The road through the park seems to be a short cut into town so there are quite a few cars passing by. Overall... nice and quiet. The bathrooms were locked so if you’re not in an RV that could be a problem. Verizon coverage was good...3 strong bars.

Yeah the road is washboard but if you go slow it’s not too bad… But it is 4 miles of a really, really dusty road with a few breaks in between. They sure need rain! There’s only four spots at this campground and people were showing up at 6 o’clock looking at my tag to see if I was leaving… Are they kidding? You’ve got to show up early here and maybe if you’re lucky you’ll get a spot… I got the last spot at about 3 o’clock. I paid $18 because I don’t have a Montana fishing license nor am I a senior... yet! It gets as cheap as six dollars if you have a fishing license here in Montana and have a senior pass. I can hear the river from my spot… It’s nice and quiet here as well… Don’t have anything bad to say except all that dust on the road but that’s part of the deal. Oh and cell service for Verizon is amazing all the way back here... Makes all that dust worth it Lol!

We had about 10 days to kill between our art shows in Oklahoma and Colorado and thought we do a little exploring and see how inexpensively we could camp along the way. We found one city park here in Kansas with free hook ups for 2 nights. We needed electricity to have air-conditioning ... it’s too hot and humid. Yesterday we found this place would $10 hook ups and covered tables. We ended up staying for three nights and enjoyed it very much… The weather has cooled a bit so air-conditioning isn’t that much of an issue but it’s nice to have the electricity anyway. We had a nice grilled dinner on our covered table then enjoyed the cool evening breeze. This place is right off the road and it’s nothing fancy but it’s all you will need for a couple of days… There’s not much to do but we’re working so office work, laundry and, general housework in the RV take place when we have downtime. There were two other trailers in the small campground but we never saw a soul. This little park is maintained well with nice level grassy areas to back up into. It was nice to have quiet private campsites for a couple of nights… We have dogs so we like it best when there are no other people around… And so to the dogs!! 🐶🐶

This place has everything going for it… It’s in a quiet little Wyoming town… It has great amenities as far as clean showers, potable water and, an RV dump… oh and did I mention that it’s FREE!!!! But the downside is, the people that pull up in their big motorhomes that leave their generators on all day and all night and never leave their motorhome… Why ever leave your home from wherever you’re from then? This is a very small campground and the need to be courteous to your neighbors is quite apparent. There seem to be a few people actually living in this campground and they are very courteous and turn their generators off so others can sleep. But next to me was a big motorhome that pulled in close, the shades closed and, turned the generator on and never turned it off....all night… They didn’t come out once… I hope they leave tomorrow because I’m here for the next two nights for work and I don’t want to see them or hear them. The moral to the story is...just be courteous when you’re in the small campgrounds… If you can’t be courteous and turn your generator off then go somewhere where you can dry camp with nobody around you because we all want to sleep… It’s not all about you. Otherwise, this is a fabulous place and I thank the town of Lovell for offering this. Besides that… I found a great laundromat in town and went to the library that has very good Wi-Fi and updated all of my computer back ups and iPhone apps… Despite the noisy travelers !!!!

Small but nice stop along the way. A little road noise but not bad....There are maybe five or six maybe seven small sites so I don’t know if big rigs would work here but my 16 foot travel trailer fit in spot number five just fine. It was perfect for overnight, clean, quiet and, right on the Bitterroot River.

Yes, it’s free and a nice park but as a woman traveling alone I felt like there were too many prying eyes at this park. I was going to put my grill on the picnic table and cook dinner but I felt like there were too many eyes watching and I didn’t feel comfortable. I like to keep a low profile when I travel and I’m not interested in people wandering over and chatting with me for the most part. Lots of locals speeding around the circle in the park in their trucks kicking up dust and making a ton of noise. Good for a quick night of sleep but I’ll be happy to move on in the morning. Road noise was loud too.... lots of hot rods and loud trucks all night and it wasn’t even the weekend. Oh well... can’t win them all... this is the first place that I found on Campendium that I haven’t been thrilled with.

I count a lot on reviews as I’m on the road full-time and I read about this little city park campground in Columbus,,Montana. There were a lot of reviews and a majority of them were sparkling and couldn’t say enough about this place. So I assumed I was going to be arriving at the garden of Eden. Don’t get me wrong, I always appreciate when a small town offers free camping to travelers and they’re nice about it. But when I arrived here the first thing I thought is, “oh my gosh what a dump!!” I was lucky to find a spot as this place was more crowded than I anticipated it to be and things are pretty tattered… The picnic table could be updated and the grass is so high around it I couldn’t even use it. But I was lucky to find a spot after a long day of driving… So I won’t complain too much. Anyway about an hour after I arrived a city worker pulled in front of my site and got out of the truck with a piece of paper with a little donation envelope attached to it with some rules and regulations which, were all very fair, and told me that they have a big problem with people taking a vantage of this free park like all free parks, so we are pretty strict with the rules and regulations… And I said, “ I don’t blame you… I’m only here for one night. Thank you!!!” Reasonable just regular commonsense rules and regulations that considerate people should follow. Anyway he left and I was sitting in my camp chair reading the paper and planning on putting a donation in the envelope, when his truck stopped at my spot again and I thought, “ah oh, now what?”...He walked right up to me and said, “I want to thank you for being so nice about taking the rules and regulations sheet that I handed you…” I looked at him in surprise and he said, “you don’t know how many people give me such a hard time when I hand it to them…“ He was just doing his job… Come on people be nice… This is a free park... stop taking advantage of things and ruining things for so many of us. The poor guy certainly has his work cut out for him here… Maybe another time of year this would be a little bit more enjoyable but tonight it’s too crowded with questionable folks for me. and yes, I will be putting a donation in that envelope tomorrow… This little town cares about this park and works hard to keep it here. and the only reason I’m giving it as many stars as I am is because of the nice city worker that stopped by....
