Lovely Camping Spot
Lovely campground - very well kept - quiet - an impressive Hopi site and site of Mormon settlements and cemetary. Peaceful, spacious, and level sites and starry night skies. Watch out for the wrong GPS when arriving from the West. Take Exit 237 and follow the clearly marked signs.
Great family campground
A hidden gem. Five or six RV sites and nice local trails to take a walk. Great staff. Palatine still retains small town feel close to the city
A worthwhile stop - 40 minute self guided walk through remnants of the
pueblo with commanding views that thrived in the 1580s when seen by the Spanish. The conquering Spanish built a huge adobe church, but were ultimately driven off.
Coordinates to this park are: (35.5501471, -105.6870634). The park is on northbound Highway 61 at mile marker 4, not a block past Main St as indicated bythe directions given in Roadtrippers. There are no helpful signs in Pecos either.
Ellis Lakeside Campground was a hidden find on a dark and stormy night. With repeated tornado warnings and a very dark sky, we sheltered under a bridge for a while, then left the Interstate at the Ellis exit, hoping to find safe shelter in case the storm worsened. All of the RV parking slots at the truck stop on both sides of the access road were taken. We continued driving into the town of Ellis, and were amazed to find a sign pointing to this city-run campground with a notice that a tornado shelter was available. We left cash for the overnight in an envelope box, but because we left early, we saw no one to thank for the safe and restful overnight. It wasn't until morning that we realized it was situated on a small lake. Thank you, City of Ellis.
