“Hike the Hotshots Trail from the parking lot trailhead up to the overlook”
Created to memorialize the nineteen members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who died there on June 30, 2013, while fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire
There is no memorial here. We drove a dirt road to get nowhere
This hike by itself was on of the more incredible hikes I have done (which is a lot); however, the gravity and meaning associated with the memorial really left a lasting impact. Limited parking if on a busy weekend; I think there is a shuttle available from Yarnell though? If you don’t mind a slightly challenging hike, this is absolutely worthwhile, and an important part of our nation’s recent history and a great way to remember these heroes. Just don’t be an idiot on your cell phone while others are trying to pay their respects at the site of this tragedy.
The memorial was very nice. The hike was very difficult.
If you want to see this sobering me,oral, then you will have to walk/hike. Visit the AZ State Park page / website for details. https://azstateparks.com/hotshots
