“always something new to view”
The Yakima Area Arboretum is a non-profit member supported living tree and plant museum. Established in 1967 by the Central District of the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs (36 garden clubs in all), the Yakima Area Arboretum is a non-profit organization supported by the generosity of its members and sponsors, and through the hard work and dedication of its staff and volunteers. The Yakima Area Arboretum is a living museum, of over 1000 specimens of trees, forbs, grasses and shrubs, on 46 acres of land managed as collections, display gardens and natural areas. The Arboretum's purpose is to educate, demonstrate, and inspire an appreciation of native and adapted non-native plants in an atmosphere of beauty and relaxation. The Arboretum encourages sound arboricultural practices, sustainable gardening and community participation.
I live about 2 miles from the Arboretum. I am seldom able to get out, anymore. when I was able, we would go there weekly. The Arboretum, along with the Sarge Hubbard park with its accompanying Yakima River Green Way, is one of two in not three crown jewels of the Yakima Yakima Valley outdoor experience.
Even if you are passing by and wish to stretch your legs, the The Arboretum or one of the other two sites, is worth more allocating more time than just a 15 minute break from driving.
I have traveled extensively, and although I have found several equal local parks, I know of none better.
