“a tour through yellowstones volcanism”
On this tour you will see various hydrothermal features, expressions of Yellowstone's volcanism. No two features are exactly alike, yet they can be grouped into those that have a lot of water (hot springs and geysers), those that have a limited amount of water (mudpots and fumaroles). As you walk this trail, you'll learn about these features and their volcanic origins.
Wow! I went to this trail directly after visiting Old Faithful. (OF is epic, don't get me wrong) but this shorter trail packs quite the punch. Lots of unique views in a shorter distance. I loved it. The fumaroles and muddiest were different than those in the OF area. And all of the standing water and dead trees give it a kind of creepy vibe. I highly recommend checking out this often overlooked trail.
This is a very nice short trail with geysers, hot springs, and the mud pots to see. However, if you want to see mud pots and only have time for one stop, the Artist Paint Pots are better in my opinion and have a couple different consistencies. If you prefer an easier shorter trail without stairs, the Fountain Paint Pots are your best bet.
Another great detour well worth the stop. Nice up close views even from the van.
This trail is fantastic. You not only get a ground level view, but the trail takes you up high so you can see the features from a different perspective. And with these features a different perspective means different lighting and more photo opportunities.
