Large open parking lot that backs up to a train yard. The trains you can hear hooking up cars but no train horns. We had a good nights sleep with no problem.
We were the only one here, I was able to run my generator to charge my batteries before leaving. The visitor center don’t open until 9am
Verizon service was full bars. We were able to get work done easily.
Food
Last night we were able to walk to a good sports bar and grill BoJos the food was very good and inexpensive
This is a very large gravel parking lot. It is fairly well lit by the lights at the visitor center and street lights. The site was fairly level and there's a Circle K on the next corner. It seems generally very quiet until around seven in the morning when the large equipment parked here starts its day. This appears to be a city or dot works lot based on the large mound of sand and the large equipment parked here.
I was the only RV here. It is right next to the railroad tracks and trains go by often but I only heard trains whistle prior to 8p and after 7a, none during the night. It was easy to sleep thru the rumble of the trains, or I guess so, as I slept well here.
I rated this site a 4 only because of its location to the train tracks.
Circle K a block away. Last time I was here the parking lot was gravel, black top much nicer. Picnic tables outside of visitors center. Some overnight train noise. Great for just an overnight.
Large gravel and blacktop lot.
Fairly level. Safe and one other trailer was here. Train noise is moderate without whistles.
Came here after Petrified Forest tour and “Standing on the Corner”. Cooked dinner on picnic table by the Visitor’s Center, then pulled in on the gravel lot to sleep. There is an adjacent amphitheater area. One can hear the train all through the night, but didn’t prevent us from sleeping. Would stay here again.
We were arriving around 10:30 pm so it was quiet and no one around. Just pulled into the parking lot and parked on the paved part in the last row facing the streets. No one else was here so made it nice to get in here. I am sure that if there were more rigs here that they would be parking behind us or on the huge gravel lot next to us. Level for the most part. Picnic tables are available and it is very clean at the Visitor's Center. Great place to stay since we were just passing through.
This place is nice because it’s free, easy, level, and just off the interstate. The lot is so big you’re pretty much guaranteed a spot. But there is a train track that runs right behind it and is so busy and so loud. Trains were coming every five minutes even through the night. No one got any sleep.
Arrived late afternoon had a great spot on the asphalt just before the gravel lot begins. Restful and peaceful. Right beside the railroad so there is the occasional train to pass by but not a bother at all.
Stayed here May and then again June 2021. Perfect overnight stop. Large, paved parking lot, plus a large adjoining gravel lot. We parked in the back (SW) corner of the paved lot. Easy 4-block walk into the center of town. Yes, trains throughout the night but they didn’t really bother us. Also suggest taking the time to go into the Visitor Center which has an interesting history as a trading post and warehouse for the Hubbell Trading posts in the area. The woman at the desk was very nice and gave us a bit of a personal tour of the building. One night we were alone in the parking lot, on our second stay there was one another RV.
We stayed here in April of 2021.
If you do not mind dry camping this location is perfect. Stay here and walk downtown to stand on the corner!
