Confirmed by 9 users | Last reported on June 11, 2024An hour from the Grand Canyon and 10 minutes from Williams. Free, no facilities. A forest road where camping is allowed. There are lots of sites with fire rings. In early November it was below 30 at night. They either had a fire here recently or it looks like they intentionally burned the grass to help prevent forest fire. Was a bit smoky. Bring your own fire wood. Pack it in, Pack it out. Quite with exception of occasional train noise. Lots of room for dogs to run. No one was here when we were. Easy access dirt road. I would drive anything out here. You can camp more in the trees or more in a field. Field had 4G service.

I enjoyed this spot. Very close to Williams Az which has a Safeway and not much else but Flagstaff is 30 miles away. It is hard to find the road because it is not marked. Do take exit 165 from HWY 64. As one reviewer mentioned, right after the “bridge” is the turn in. It is dirt road and it has many ruts but you do need t have to go too far in to get a good spot. Do turn left at the T and I took the next left after that. Nice wide open space: I have a 28’ 5 th wheel but there is plenty of room - have seen quite large RV’s in here. Water available at Frys in Flagstaff, but avoid Paul Everett RV unless you want to get robbed. Got propane at the 76 in Flagstaff; $2.70 - seems to be the best rate around here. I would definitely visit this spot again.

Easy to find plenty of spots does get a little more rugged about a mile back definitely would need high clearance and 4 x 4, but some amazing spots very peaceful quiet and it was so nice to see very clean no garbage there was a few that look like they’ve moved in butthey were in the beginning definitely coming back here in the summer. Mother nature gave us a little bit of snow, but no problem getting out absolutely beautiful area.

We arrived well after dark and were able to find a site. It is very dark at night. I would recommend arriving before dark. No hookups available. But the cost is $0.
Several sites in the trees and many in the open field. I would highly recommend this dispersed area to anyone with boondocking capable rigs.
It was peaceful and quiet. Beautiful sunrise. We stayed only one night on the way to the Grand Canyon, but would have stayed longer if we didn't have reservations. About 35 minutes drive to Flagstaff, but maybe 5-10 minutes to the town of Williams which has restaurants and route 66 souvenirs.

We arrived late at night, after dark for an overnight stay. The area was very dark and we tried not to disturb others.
There were still plenty of spots available during a weeknight stay in March. Lovely open field and some wooded sites. Dirt roads into the area and sites are dirt. Rutted a bit from previous users and could be muddy if it had rained. Very quiet and peaceful. We would have stayed longer but had reservations at the Grand Canyon.

This place is nice. F.r. 71 is open year round, due to the quarry on the side hill. Road is maintained up to the gate to the quarry. Not snow plowed but it's a good road. Most forest roads and other places are closed all winter and open up in April. There is a national forest web page with the road closures.
Lots of snow even in March. Had over 6" of snow 4 times. Lows below freezing and highs in the 30's- 50's. So it melts in a day or two. But the road is a mess during the melt. Some stuff in Williams but Flagstaff is 35 minutes away. Kaiab lake is close, very beautiful and lots of big birds like bald eagles, and much more. Lots of trails to walk, Ive seen pronghorn, elk, turkey, coyotes lots of small birds and other wild life.
There are places to tuck away and large open areas for even the biggest rigs.
It's a nice place to stay. During good weather this place is packed for sure.
Not much enforcement here.
Enjoy your stay.

Great boondocking spots for all size rigs with fairly level site where we camped before FR71 split. From the I40 Exit 163...take Hwy 64 and get ready to turn right onto Garland Prairie Road (not marked) after marker 186 in about 1/2 mile. Main road Fire Road 108 is easy to navigate for any size. Go about one mile in from Hwy 64 and there is an open prairie area with plenty of spots. Going further, at FR 71, the road splits and is rutted and rougher. Nearby Williams has water available at Exit 161 or just take hwy 64 straight into Williams. Just go into town (do not stop at the Shell station) and there is a 76 station, next to the Safeway, that sells water at an easy to park next to well head for $.10 per gallon. Cost me $2.86 to fill my 30 gallon bladder not quite full There is a Safeway in nearby Williams next to the aforementioned 76 Gas Station. Plenty of fast-food places and overall, a fun place to stay. Keep an eye on the weather as wet weather is not in the cards for staying here. The roads get very muddy and are really soft. Some road noise if you stay next to Hwy 64 but where we were, it was not noticeable but dim noise from trains in the distance.. Access to South rim of the Grand Canyon from this location. 5 bars of Verizon with my WeBoost booster but two bars without.
Road was still wet in some spots from recent snow. We just left Phoenix at 93 degrees and it is 68 here. Just take it easy and keep an eye out for muddy areas this early.

Super spacious area with lots of pull off areas and fire pit rock rings surrounded by the forest. Had full bars of service but the internet wouldn’t load - I think too many people were on the cellphone tower. Great place to stay for a while though!

This BLM site was very spacious and just a short drive on dirt/gravel road. There seems to be 2 separate areas… the first one you come to is treed and spacious and further down road 71 is a open meadow which appears to be a favorite. It is a dark sky area, but even near the trees the sky is vivid! Area we camped in was clean with established fire. If you NEED tv, there were 15 channels available OTA. Paid $10 at Canyon Motel&RV park for 35 g of water and $2.50 a bag for garbage dump. There is a fair bit of road noise in the first area from hwy 64 that leads to the Grand Canyon. Big variety of TTs and camper vans.
