Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on June 23, 2022Grayrocks Reservoir has 8 or so entrances that are suitable for all but the largest motorhomes, though most of the sites are next to the lake along the perimeter road and are only suitable for 4x4s. #1 has the most RV accessible sites. Sites are grass/dirt next to the road and may be soft or muddy. Most of them have fire rings. There are no services other than dumpsters at entry #1 and #7, boat ramps at #1 and a few pit toilet buildings ( #1 and #8, I think ). Our campsite next to the reservoir ( Late April '15 ) was nice and other than the occasional truck or ATV going past on the access road, it was very quiet. The lake level was up to the nominal shoreline. Stay limit was 14 days.
AT&T coverage was two bars, but I think the tower was a long way away because it was pretty slow.
Across highway ( near entrance #2 ) is a 1/4 mile or so road into a wildlife area with two parking areas.

We followed the gps coordinates of the other reviewer but decided to stop at gate one. The road was paved all the way to the camping area then turned off onto dirt road. Easy to get to and there were plenty of sites. Some cattle came past one night but other than that we only saw a few geese. No service on ATT but when we hooked up our Wii booster we had good service: 3-4 bars LTE.

We found several water front locations for our big rig with no other RVs within our view. This location is quite large and could support hundreds of RVs. While we were there it was quite warm and the bugs did not make it an ideal experience. We'd love to come back during cooler weather.
There are 7 access gates and many sites to choose from; however, not all roads are big rig accessible. I recommend parking at gate 1 and then explore the area to locate a great site that is accessible for your RV.
There are numerous porta potties and trash bin at the gate 1 area.

Came here for the Eclipse, Glendo was packed. Nice alternative and actually I liked it much more. Paved road to the "Gates" , stayed at Gate 7. A dirt road goes along the sites, not recommended for the Big Boys (rigs) so walk it or take a look before entering. Camping right on the edge of the water, semi-sandy beach. Can get a little windy at times, mostly a nice breeze. Site vary from big to smaller so it's Goldilocks choice, too big, too small, just right. Some activity on the water, jet ski, skiing, yaker's and fishing.
Biggest annoyance is having to hear the "Fish" jumping and the "Cows" munching.. heheh, just joking.. Nice place, Trash bins at entrance of gate, Closest "Dump N Fill" at Lewis City Park in Wheatland, a little tricky to get to, but they have the facilities.. Dump on main road and water at the bulletin board. They did close if for the Eclipse so you might consider a back up. Limited Free (donation appreciated) camping for a few days.
Stayed in a Truck Camper, friends had a 32' and 40+ 5th. Easy access directly to the sites, but the dirt road along the inside is a bit tricky. Main Camping area as you come down the main road at the beginning of the park.

I stayed here overnight on my way to another site. Driving in past the power plant was a little misleading, as they also have "Gates". Don't turn there, just keep driving. It's a long drive but the road is well maintained. Once you do get to the reservoir, you'll know. At least when I got there on a Friday there were already a lot of campers. I still had no trouble finding a spot to park, though I would say to come earlier if you want a prime spot near the water. Tons of space, and you can basically camp where ever. I did not have any issues with noise at Gate 1, though it did seem to be a lot of larger groups camping and I'm sure some groups may be rowdier than others. There are actually 12 gates if I'm remembering correctly, the last few having good spots for bigger rigs too and is probably where I would choose to camp if I came back for a longer stay. You can judge from the main road pretty easily if your rig should go down that entrance or not. The road continues past the Gates and eventually comes to another road, so no need to be concerned about not being able to turn around.
I have AT&T and did not have service except in some spots closer to the toilets at Gate 1. There were also posted signs of a fire ban when I was here, though there were some fire rings made by previous campers.

Found this nice spot I’m enjoying for two nights (last night and tonight) and wanted to share. It’s just a few miles northeast of Wheatland, WY and south of Ft. Laramie. Easy access. I’m driving a 2000 F150 4x4 pulling a 12’ U-Haul trailer. Pavement or well maintained gravel roads all the way in. Vaulted toilets a short walk down the road. Free camping for tent or TT for 7 days. Giant walleyes leaping out of the water day and night. White pelicans, Canadian geese and ducks a plenty. I’m thoroughly enjoying watching them fish while I relax with my dog.
Hiking and boating opportunities. https://www.travelwyoming.com/listing/wheatland/grayrocks-reservoir — at Grayrocks Reservoir.

Incredible sunsets!! Plenty of level places to park/camp. 7 night limit and FREE. Roads are very easy to navigate and smooth!! About 15 minutes into town for groceries/gas. No hookups, water or dump station. Pit toilets and dumpsters for trash. Opportunities for fishing, boating, jet skiing, swimming and relaxing. We have found a tiny bit of trash but for the most part, exceptionally clean. All gates have good camping spots (about 10 gates) and are easily accessible, even for big rigs. Gate 7, especially.

Great Camping, especially if with multiple rigs. If arriving/exiting from the north, access from Ft. Laramie is on a gravel road that is fairly washboarded in places, making for slow passage. The road from Guernsey is paved and visually more interesting.
We arrived on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, having outrun severe weather to the south. There were a ton of folks here for the holiday, and we still found a private, lakeside place to camp. There is plenty of space here.
Gate 2 places you closest to the trailhead for Cottonwood Draw trail. We saw many frogs, birds and insects, though they weren’t bothersome. Fish jumping is visible from shore.
Almost no cell service, so relied on weather radio.

If arriving from/exiting north, know that the road from Ft. Laramie is gravel. It has areas of washboarding, and can be slow going due to this (10 - 25 mph). The road to/from Guernsey is paved, and visually interesting as a plus.
Gate 2 is the closest to the Cottonwood Draw hiking trail, which looked interesting, though we did not hike it.
Outrunning severe weather in northern CO, we arrived here on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. We expected there to be a lot of folks here, and there were, but yet we found a private area. There is plenty of space for all. This would be an especially great place for camping with a large group of people. Some spots near us could easily accommodate 5 - 10 rigs.
Many birds, frogs and jumping fish to be seen here. Insects were present, but didn’t pose a problem.
Verizon service was spotty at best, and we relied on our weather radio for alerts and info.

Although we weren’t quite sure we were in an official spot, we setup alone on a Monday night near the boat ramp by a rock fire ring right on the water.
Bathrooms were close by (although dirty) and we did have a neighbor a couple hundred yards away who enjoyed his music well into midnight, luckily we were too tired to care.
Great spot for the stop over, good roads and signage on the way in.
