“Camping overlooking the Pacific Ocean”
Westport Union-Landing State Beach covers over 3 miles of rugged and scenic coastline, with 86 campsites available in three campgrounds on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The magnificent vistas, sunsets and tree-covered mountains in the background provide an inspiring backdrop to the park and challenges to both amateur and professional photographers. The park was named for two early day communities. Westport, a sawmill town, is still in existence and Union Landing now consists of only a few buildings. Both of these settlements were famous for supplying lumber and railroad ties, and Tan Oak bark to the schooners which anchored offshore. The schooners were loaded with forest products by means of intricate cable tramways and chutes from the bluffs.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on July 27, 2022We stayed here for 3 nights in June 2017. Sites are all first-come-first-served, and most have full ocean views. The sites that don't have direct views still have partial views, just through other sites. There are 3 different sections, we stayed in the northen-most section. We arrived on a Wednesday and there were lots of sites to choose from, most of which would fit large RVs. We fit in no problem in our 35' Class A, and we even saw a 45' Class A there. We stayed through a Friday night, and when we left on Saturday there were still spots available. The closest town in Westport, which is tiny, with only one very small grocery store and one restaurant/bar. So there's not a whole lot to do in the area, but the views are beautiful. I had a very limited LTE signal on my Verizon phone which would occasionally drop to a useless roaming signal. We tried our booster but it didn't seem to help, however other friends stayed here and said their booster worked just fine. It did seem that the signal was stronger the farther north you were in the park. But if cell signal is important, this might not be the best place for you. Also, the only way to access this park is via CA-1. So if you're not comfortable on twisty, curvy mountain roads, don't come here. But if you want a few days parked right on the ocean, it's a pretty beautiful place.

We stopped here for a desired 2 night layover only to discover that the California State Park camp director and rangers at this location hate their guests. That sounds crazy but they were soooooo rude to us I would never, ever stay here again.
The place was deserted on a Monday afternoon. Within minutes of parking the camp director literally showed up and entered my RV and berated me for parking before paying. I hadn’t even leveled my unit yet. Then he saw my drone and started in on how evil they are and if he even see’s it he’ll 86 us.
Next he demanded $35. I gave him $40. The next morning at 7:30 am another park ranger is knocking on my RV door while we are sleeping. Sho wont leave!! What???? She wants to know if we paid. Wow! I’ve been in California State Parks on and off this whole trip and all I can say is California stinks.

A bit remote, but worth the effort. The camp area is a cliff above the Pacific Ocean. We backed in, giving us a panoramic view of the coastline and ocean - and a gorgeous sunset. Only one other RV, and two tent campers, so it felt very open and quiet.

On the edge of a bluff fifty feet above the water. The noise of the waves drowns out the occasional hwy 1 traffic
Great water views especially to the south
On a Thursday at 2pm there were only 3 of 6 spots in the northern section occupied. By 6pm all were occupied. The southern section has more spots and is maybe 100 ft from the water and was virtually empty at 2pm

This place is right on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The views are spectacular. This little cove that it's in seems to also avoid the fog and wind for some reason. Beautiful.

55 degree winter camping and the place still had spots taken. Most sites are feet from the cliff and offer spectacular views. Minimal leveling required. Very close to highway but waves totally drown out all road noise.
Pit toilet is clean but very low to the ground. No water and high fee is why it’s a 4 and not 5 star location.

Nice spot but too expensive for what you get which is an ocean view, picnic table and fireplace ring. The outhouse bathroom stunk from a distance so we didn’t look in.

This is a California State Beach located a couple of miles north of Westport, California in Mendocino County. The site is right on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific. The ocean is visible from the sites, but to see the beach and the surf you will have to walk a few yards closer to the edge of the cliffs. The scenery is dramatic with large rocks jutting out of the sea and the beach.
There are two parts to this State Beach. The southern section has many more campsites and the only sites that are next to the cliffs. The northern section has a ranger station, an EV charging station, but fewer campsites that are not as well situated. The sites have fire rings and picnic tables, but no hookups. There are pit toilets that are in average condition. There are water spigots in several locations, but they are not suitable for filling your tanks. There are no threads for hoses.
The southern section has several nice sites right along the cliffs, separated only by a greenbelt and a walking path. The northern end of that section has about five sites that are separated from the main camping section and are therefore quieter and more private. There is adequate spacing between sites. The main part of the southern section has a loop road with sites along the cliff, sites in the interior of the loop and sites along the back of the property. This part of the campground was very busy, with multi-family camping groups, children, music, etc. In other words, it was less desirable if you are seeking quiet and privacy. This is a popular destination.
It is a first come first served campground. I arrived on a Friday morning about 11:00 am and had my choice of two of the more private sites on the northern end of the southern section. By Friday evening the entire campground was full. I chose site 15 and had neighbors on both sides who were nice quiet couples. The sites are wide, so I felt I had adequate privacy, and the ocean waves create a nice sound barrier.
The cost was $35 per night, but I received a $2 senior discount. You don't get any amenities for this price other than the pit toilet and the water spigots, but the ocean view and the sound of the waves make the price worth paying. Being self-contained, I didn't use the facilities. The campground was clean and well maintained. The entrance and interior roads are dirt, so there is some dust. It never rains in this area in the summer, but in the fall or winter I suspect the road could get muddy.
You can walk for about a mile in either direction on a path along the cliffs. At either end of the path you have access to the beach, which is wide and flat. The ocean views are rugged and spectacular. Of interest, part of the walking path is the old highway that has now been replaced by Highway 1. The old highway has completely fallen into the ocean in several spots. It is interesting to see the power of nature and how it has gobbled up what man has built.
This is a great location for a couple of nights if you want to get away and enjoy the sites and sounds of the ocean. During mid-week it would probably be blissfully quiet.

We were just road tripping and stopped just because.
Highway 1 was 50 yards away with very little traffic but you could hear it.
Short walk to the beach.
Pit toilets and 1 water spigot. Not sure if it is potable. Nice tables and fire pit.
