We had a site right on the lake with a nice view. The site took more time than usual to level the camper. I had read online reviews before we went and all gave the bathrooms bad reviews. So I didn't have high expectations, however, it was not as bad as they reviewed. There is only one large bathroom for the park, but the park is small and the restrooms were clean. This park is close enough to town and that was a plus, since we were there to see a Baylor game. There are 3 COE parks on Lake Waco and we have visited 2 of them. The lake is a surprisingly nice lake.

Staff friendly , nice site to camp on.
The slippery minnow is a great place to eat and listen to live music. You can walk to it from the site make sure you take flash light!

An unexpected find! The sites are far apart and spacious with plenty of parking, covered picnic table and grill. No traffic noise, just the sound of the crickets at night! Very peaceful. I believe they have gone to RESERVATIONS ONLY. - so check. We had to use coordinates from Campendium on the Apple Map App to find it, Just typing in Speegleville Park took us to day use. And the park has day use gated off from the camping area.

We wanted to visit Waco so we picked this spot for a few days. It was cold and rainy down in the 30’s but stayed warm in the trailer. We visited the Magnolia shop and Silos and went to the Texas Ranger museum in town. The park is clean and the lake looks like it would have produced some fish but the weather did not cooperate. The restrooms were a bit of a walk from the site but they were ok. Showers had plenty of pressure and the water was hot. The sites are big and have a covered picnic table, fire pit and hook for a lantern. Very level paved site. Camp host drove through a lot to check things out. Very quiet place. There was a dumpster available by the restrooms. Would like to come back when the weather is warmer. Lots of deer.

We stayed here two nights end of March and was able to reserve a lakefront site a week before our trip. Our trip was mainly to break up a drive to Oklahoma from Austin, and to visit the Magnolia market downtown. We tried to find a park closer to I-35, but wanted a little space since family planned to visit. We decided to stay on Lake Waco and there were four USACE campgrounds to select from. The closest one to downtown was Midway. But it was right off the highway and we were worried about traffic noise. When we drove past it we were glad we decided to not stay so close to the highway. So we selected, the next closest one on the lake, Speegleville Park. Google maps showed it was only 2 minutes further from the silos than Midway. But think it was more like 10 minutes more, by the time you got through the park and to your site. This has by far been the largest camp site we have stayed at, and at first sight we though the nicest. There was a huge grassy are in front of the site by the lake, with a sloped entry into the lake. You can tell the water may rise during rainy seasons, but since the lake was down the site was HUGE! There was also a lot of space between campsites. The site offered electric, water, and a dump station on the way out of the park. There was also a large covered picnic area, grill, and a gravel area with a fire ring. The RV asphalt site was very level, and there was plenty of space for two cars to park on the pavement with the RV.

Unfortunately for this park, even though the grounds were well maintained I didn’t feel the site itself was. There was small trash left behind from previous guess all over the gravel picnic/fire ring area (zip ties, wrappers, bottle caps, cigarette butts, etc.). But the biggest concern was several areas of broken glass bulbs from what looked like Christmas string lights. With a pup this was a big issue for us. The covered shelter was also FILLED with spiders and webs. We know we are camping and will see bugs, but the last USACE park we stayed at with a covered area was well kept. You could tell they dusted for webs regularly under the shelter. That wasn’t the case here, and at dusk there were several spiders hanging eye level around the structure. So needless to say we didn’t make use of the picnic area or hang up our string lights. Our other complaint was the registration office wasn’t supposed to close until 7:00 pm. But when we arrived at 6:10 pm, it was closed and there wasn’t any type of note. So we just proceeded to our site and checked in the next morning. If nobody is going to be available for check-in then the park could use a few more directional signs at intersections. There were two areas when driving up to the site, where we weren’t sure which way to go. The dumpsters were also overflowing. The dump station didn't have a cap on one of the drains, so it smelled really bad and had lots of flies. It is a shame because it really was such a beautiful site, but we personally wouldn’t stay again. If you are going to stay here, and spiders don’t bother you this site is awesome and large. However, if you want to stay and don’t want the covered area full of spiders maybe opt for the adjacent lakefront site. It is Site 004, and wasn’t as large but it’s picnic table wasn’t covered like most of them were. So at least you aren’t walking into spiders on way to the table.

Upon check-in I was handed a hang tag for my rear view mirror and told the gate locks at 10 and that was it, the lady was super nice but she didn't give me directions to the spot, info, anything. The site was unlevel and tore up pretty bad, it was asphalt at some point and washed out and they put gravel over the asphalt in an attempt to help level it some but the ruts are pretty rough. That being said leveling wasn't too awfully difficult. The sites are spaced pretty well and our site (02) had an AMAZING view. There were quite a few locals camping here with a ton of vehicles and boat trailers and such parked everywhere, they did a pretty good job staying out of the way but a very large rig would've had trouble getting by them on a few occasions. Speaking of that: the sites are LONG could accommodate a very large rig. Distance to grocery stores etc is fine, and a quick ride to the standard waco experience. Bathhouse was in pretty bad shape, and dump station was....very very bad. Think raw sewage overflowing. I just left with my tanks full, it was very bad. Sunrises are amazing from the lakefront sites. Drive slowly on the entrance road, it is in a pretty bad state, seemed washed out, I suspect this area floods quite a bit and the road would be near impossible to properly maintain in that case. It was pretty bad when we were there, take it slow and you'll be fine.

We very much enjoyed our stay and would come back again. Well maintained park with /water and electric. The bathrooms and showers were the only area that could be improved on. Close to The Silos and all Waco has to offer. Cell service with Verizon was two bars but with a cell booster it worked well for working and streaming movies. Thanks for a great stay!

Stayed here in January 2022. Several sites have a good amount of room between the neighboring site while others are a bit to close for our liking so I suggest using your mapping software to help with selecting your site. Sites are paved but many are not level so bring your leveling blocks. Several sites have lake views and the boat launching ramp is nearby. All sites have 30 & 50 amp service as well as water. A dumping station is located on your way out of the campground. As others have said the road into the campground could use some maintenance and has many dips and a few potholes but drive slow and the drive is okay. It's a short 15-30 minute drive into Waco depending on where you want to go and plenty of food and supply retailers are available.

Close to everything Waco but far away from the noises and lights of the city. Right on Lake Waco with gorgeous views. In the evenings, deer roam freely and often wander close by (so drive slowly). Armadillos and cranes can also be seen often. Friendly hosts (who are also campers) and just the most relaxing experience. Grounds are well maintained. Gates lock nightly at 10 p.m.
