It’s about an hour drive from the southern entrance, but it’s 20 degrees cooler at a higher elevation (a great option when we visited Zion in late July). It was a beautiful drive up on paved road. A dirt road goes all the way around the reservoir so you can scout out a site. Most vehicles can make it to the reservoir, but larger rigs might not be able to drive all the way around the lake. We had no problems in our Jeep Patriot. The water was low, so we stayed on the peninsula in the middle of the water. Restrooms located on each side of the reservoir. Because it is a lake, you can hear other visitors from the other side of the reservoir.

This place exceeded my expectations. We drove out here Friday night just before the sunset, and the drive in was breathtaking. This particular campsite is bigger than you think. Lots of room, lots of privacy, and have bathrooms scattered around the campsites. There’s plenty of activities around this area. I’ve seen people kayak, paddle board, four wheel, swimming, ride motorbikes, etc.
When we came in, the place was very packed, but luckily we were able to find spots on the west shore. It’s cooler at night so dress warm! Great hiking trails by Zion too! Definitely would come again!

One night stay in mid-August 2020. Drove a Ford Fusion (Low Clearance 4-Door Sedan).
There are a few ways to get there. All had amazing drives and were mountainous. The road I took from the west was mostly paved until you got close to the reservoir. The road north on the other hand, that I took the following morning, was all dirt, rocks, and steep drop-offs for miles. I was able to handle it in my low clearance 4 door sedan, but it took an hour and a half of going 5-15mph, and I was a little nervous at times. I would not recommend this 2nd option. I had almost no Verizon signal this entire time.
The lake is surrounded by a dirt/rock road that all cars can drive (except for the farthest end). The entire lake is surrounded by dozens of campsites, many of which can fit large sized trailers. There are a nice range of sizes and distances from the water. In regards to the mosquitoes: I've been to worse sites when it comes to mosquitoes, although I did have an issue with a skunk coming into my sight, but its nature after all! No cell service was found even when I took a walk around the lake. The vault toilets were well maintained and a few were spread around. Although there were a lot of signs saying no fires, this was completely ignored at nearly all sites.
The view during the drive and around the reservoir is absolutely worth it, the lake is quiet even when crowded with campers, plenty of space at the campsites, and the vault toilets were well maintained. Highly recommend.

The lake, as it has been for the past 8 years of coming here with our local family, was beautiful, quiet, and lively. Campers were respectful and having fun. Wildlife were abundant.
However, morning day two of our nightly paid site we found no toilet paper in the only bathroom on this side of the lake. The bathroom we specifically camp next to as we have small children with us. The bathroom I expected to be routinely stocked camping on my period.
The campground host came by that afternoon, laughing loudly with other campers, while his passenger used the restroom. He didn’t return until the next afternoon, reminding us to take out our trash and apologizing for the lack of toilet paper, stating his wife, who usually took care of it, wasn’t feeling well and he was busy. Yet, he rolled around on his atv completely unprepared without the basic stock materials? Didn’t take out the trash at that restroom the whole time? And what was our reservation money spent on?
TL;DR So disappointed in the host.
