“moderate hike with awesome expansive views”
The Tall Trees Trail (#4269) is a moderate 0.3 mile hike. Although the distance is short, the views are long, as you look up into the canopy of towering Douglas-fir and western hemlock. Ferns, oxalis and other understory plants green up the forest, and provide a backdrop for the five interpretive signs along the trail. Cedar benches await you on the platform at the end of the trail, providing a cool, quiet, contemplative place to eat lunch, or listen to the murmur of the small creek on its journey to the sea. Directions from Lowell: Continue through town, and take the Lowell/Jasper road to the Unity Bridge, turnleft. Continue along the North Shore road, which turns into Forest Road 18. Turn left onto FR 1817 and follow 10 miles to FR 1806, turn left. After 3 miles, turn right onto FR 1806-427 and follow * mile to the trailhead.
