“Camping north of Ventura”

The park lies between the Pacific Ocean and the base of the Santa Ynez mountains along Highway 1 off the Ventura Freeway. The views of the Channel Islands are breathtaking, and are most notable at dusk. Campsites are highly sought after at this small picturesque park, which is footsteps away from the Pacific Ocean.

This park is pricey and the spots are tight (and hard to get in), but it's a little gem! I was woken up every morning by the waves crashing in the bus bedroom window (the first morning, I felt like I was in a car wash... hummm...!). We climbed on the bus roof to drink our morning coffee (because you would get splashed if you sat on the rock wall between the campsite and the sea!) and watched whales swim by! The campground is right on the beach, so we spent our days boogie boarding and kayaking! The sunsets are out of this world!

Note that there are cheaper site with no service on the side of the road (20$).

One downside is that our bikes and rig got some damage for the salt water... Make sure you rinse them after each high tide, or park a little further from the sea! Also, keep everything of value locked up at night. One more thing, squirrels live in the rocks. Don't leave food unattended.

Site 8 was amazing! Right next to the stairs to go down to a little cove with sand. If you go down father in the campsite it’s all rocky! Stayed here with our 2 year old and it was amazing! Played on the beach all afternoon! Would definitely stay here again!

Nice spot. A lot of people need to be sure to cancel if they can’t make it. Was booked full but actually 25% occupied. Sites are tight with tables.

This was a great park for an RV stay right on the beach. Full hookups are available for a great rate, considering the location. I stayed in site 39, which was level left-to-right, had a concrete pad, and was adjacent to a common-use grass area. The grass area turned out to be where a lot of campers let their dogs handle business, but it wasn’t a big deal. There was a clear ocean view
from anywhere in the park.

32 foot class A with dolly tow.

Access was easy, steep entry.
Most sites were back in. We fit well, but with the dolly tow and sedan it became snug. 50/30/20 amp hook up, swerve and water at many sites.

Concession type restaurant stand on site with reasonable prices. Showers as well.

Beach access on site. However, somehow there was a significant amount of oil spilled on the beach during our visit.

Ventura approximately 20 minutes away with ferry access to Channel Islands National Park.

If you want an unimpeded view of the ocean with waves within a few feet, the front section is your place. The cost for this is extremely tight places and if your rig is bigger than 20ft w pull outs, you will have zero room. Found it impressive that big rigs actually got into these spaces. The sites in the back are much roomier with the cost being the ocean is hard to view.
There is not much beach, especially during high tide so sand walking is not friendly.
Cute little snack shack on site but it was closed due to remodeling. Bathroom/showers very well maintained. Goods/services about 15 min drive. Road noise there but not bad. Wifi ok except during peak hours. All in all, if beach access was easier would be 5 stars

Sites are tight but this is all about the location on the beach and listening to the surf at night. Our space accommodated our 19’ trailer and our SUV in front of it. There was maybe 10’ between us and the water at high tide. The sunsets were amazing. If our RV had pop-outs too, we could reach out and touch our neighbors on both sides. Fortunately, we had friendly quiet neighbors which really allowed us to enjoy the sounds of the sea.

We showed up on a Sunday night during spring break and happened to get site 28 the only one available. The sites are tight and narrow and with our midsize suv and 22 ft trailer we were just able to stay hooked up.

Loved the proximity to the ocean and the campground seemed cozy with a little cafe we didn’t use.

We were then left staring at our neighbours generator 6 ft away and breathing the exhaust. We had to walk away for an hour. Thankfully that stopped. Camping should ban generators imho.

We wanted to fill our water tank on the way out and that was NOT permitted. The state parks person stood guard of the tap until we were on our way. No explanation given.

We decided to leave early the next day. It was a decent stop over. As an international the only way to pay was via web app and the Ventura county reservation system is not friendly to international credit cards and the website rejected my international data roaming SIM cards so I was forced to process cc payments over unsecured wifi. One night is $42 but the self serve reservation fee is $10 so we had to pay 52 to book our own campsite.

Yep, it's a tight squeeze but it's pretty nice. In this very friendly, neighborly campground you'll be packed in tight but enjoy the community of joining a row of campers out on the rocks to enjoy the sunset. The same ritual of sitting back and enjoying the ocean happens over morning coffee as well. We enjoyed the dishwashing sink, shower (coin operated!), little cafe and access to the beach. (The sandy beach is down the way, not directly in front of most sites).

Notes: We were in a van and the ranger did confirm that our van was built out (sounds like you can't just car or tent camp?). Only some campsites (lower numbers?) have fire rings. Because not all sites have power, we did get some generator noise until right up till 9 p.m.

Local recco: You HAVE HAVE HAVE to go to the Ventura botanical garden! $7 and absolutely world class!!!

Small RV Park with roughly 30 spots. Not all spots have hookups or fire pits, so consult a map before you go. Reservations can be made via the Ventura County Parks and Rec website - but are super hard to come by. You’ll be happy if you snag one - many spots are right against the ocean and are beautiful!! There’s a cafe/shop on site, very well maintained bathrooms and pay showers. Classic CA beach camping at its best. Highly recommend.
