Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on March 22, 2022We only stayed a night but the park was nice and the amount of pull through spaces was impressive. Made and easy in and out for us. The dog area was nice and big but the other amenities weren't all that "nice". The bathrooms were okay, not great, not bad either. The staff was friendly as well. Accommodated us even when we got in pretty late.
This park is situated right off the freeway, so you can hear all that noise, as well as train noise, so beware. It is muted with all the windows and vents closed, but one of the noisier places we have been. The sites are close together and gravel with a concrete pad (that was actually next to our truck with the way it was situated). The bathrooms/showers were dated, but very clean. The managers were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The wifi works fantastically. I would come back here for an overnight (in the cooler weather!).

We stopped here on a whim while heading east bound through Texas, and before deciding if we wanted to keep on I-10 or head down to the Alpine/Marfa area. It's a great stop over location for a driving break. Not much in town to do besides some dining, not even a grocery store - so don't anticipate provisioning in Van Horn.
The park is cute and well maintained - we checked out all three in town, and this was our favorite. Easy pull through sites, and easy to maneuver through the park - and friendly check-in. Accommodated our Passport America discount with no problem.
The owner gave us a heads up that the oil line workers are coming in town soon, and they'll continue to keep 10 sites available for overnights - so they recommend reservations in the future as all parks in Van Horn will be full most nights.

The sites are level all gravel. Easy in, easy out, all pull through sites. New upgraded utility panels (50, 30, cable), WiFi is fast. Large clean bathrooms. Nice laundry room with four washers and dryers. Very friendly hosts and owner. The park is near the interstate, but not that noisy. It is right downtown near the famous Chuys restaurant (http://chuys1959.com/) a John Madden favorite. Very good food.

Clean location, slightly off the freeway. Clean bathrooms and showers. Level, drive through, gravel sites with a little space between each site. Nothing special but friendly host and good, reasonable site.

Easy off, easy on if you're passing through and need a spot for the night. There's a Loves on the east side of town for fuel and eats. Park is mostly clean, there was a little bit of trash near the dog park - looked like the wind might have blown it over there. Spots are wide enough for two vehicles to park side by side in case you travel with multiples. Spots are long enough to keep our 35' trailer connected to our tow vehicle. Site 42 was level. The dog park is kinda small but so are our dogs. Big dogs may not get much of a run in. Office was closed when we arrived but had our packet ready with all instructions. When we stayed there was a Highway Patrol officer living here. You will be between the interstate and a railroad, both don't seem very loud and we didn't hear train horns just the rumble of passing through.

The owner was very pleasant when I called to make a reservation in the afternoon. When we arrived after hours, our package was hanging on the board outside of the office. The site was very easy to find, clean and level. There was a great view of the mountains across the highway. The speed of the free WiFi varied but was usable. Road noise was substantial, i heard a train in the evening but not overnight.

We got 10% off the normal rates with Good Sam. There's not much out in West Texas so they stay was appreciated. But Southern Star isn't much more than a place to park. They do offer all pull through sites and since we'd rather not unhook the toad for a single night, that was nice. However, wedged in between the freeway and the train tracks, it wasn't the most restful night of sleep ever. Good cell signal on both Verizon and AT&T helped pass the time.
Otherwise, decent place to park for a night on your way into or out of Texas.

I stayed at another site but it was too dusty. I moved here and yes, it’s small, but I think that’s what kept the dust down a bit since the RVs were grouped together.
I stayed in parking spot 11 so the I-10 vehicles didn’t bother me.
WiFi was great, I was able to watch Netflix and some remote work and keep up with my social media.
Weather was bad so I had to wait here for 3 days, but I would stay again.
Go to the dollar general for your small stuff and go to the grocery store across from there for your groceries. These places and restaurants at 10 min walking distance.

We called ahead to reserve a site here (day of) while driving across W Texas. We arrived after hours so the woman in the office kindly left us an envelope on the office door with all the info we needed and our site #.
Easy pull through spots with utilities. There is a dog run area however, it can be a bit dusty but at least our pup had some room to run after a long day of driving.
We didn't check out any of the other amenities.
The park appears to have a handful of overnight sites with the rest being local workers. The park was actually very clean and well kept and one of the cleanest we've been too with the majority being local workers. Rigs and sites were well kept up!
The highway is just a few hundred yards behind the park but I'm not too bothered by noise but bring earplugs if you are.
Verizon and ATT both worked well enough for Zoom calls.
Price reflects military discount.
