“Camping on Lake Mendocino”
Kyen Campground and Day-Use Area is situated on Lake Mendocino in California's Mendocino Range, where redwood forests meet wine country.
The lake is formed by the Coyote Dam on the Russian River. A wide variety of recreational opportunities is available, including boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing, hiking and horseback riding.
There are 101 sites for tents or RVs up to 30 feet (no hookups). Picnic tables, fire grills, and lantern holders are provided. Restrooms with showers, playground (in the adjacent day-use area), dump station, and boat ramp are available. Some facilities are wheelchair-accessible. Leashed pets are permitted, except in some day-use areas.
Made the reservation weeks in advance. When we arrived the place was deserted! It was 104 degrees outside and the kids were tired of driving. They decided to play in the so called lake. There was a dead spider in the water and a dead fish on land. The ranger drove by us and was rude saying we didn't pay the $3 to park in the day use area. We told her that we have paid $25 to camp there she said she didn't have us down. I wasn't going to stay here anyway!! The squirrels were so hot they were lying in any shade they could find in the road sprawled!
Showers and restrooms could be cleaner but not a bad little stop. Beautiful lake!
