“walk the Gambusia Nature Trail”
Texas Parks and Wildlife was provided $2 million for the recovery of Sea Rim State Park by the 81st Legislature. With these funds, the department has developed a master plan to restore the park in a two phase process. The first phase will include construction of some park facilities over the next two years. In the interim, we have opened the park on a limited basis: Day Use and primitive camping (no electricity available). A permit is required to utilize the park. Activities include camping, wildlife observation, birding, beach combing, walking the Gambusia Nature Trail (a boardwalk through the marsh), canoeing, kayaking, beach swimming, fishing and public waterfowl hunting (in season). The park includes 5 miles of open beach.
Cost: $20/night.
Hookups: Water, electric.
Amenities: Outhouse style bathrooms.
Additional Fees: $3/day per person entrance fee.
Hiking: The Gambusia Trail was short, but amazing. There are also kayaking trails, but not much in the way of hiking.
Online Reservation: Yes, but their internet wasn’t working. So we had a few issues.
Wifi / Cell Service: No Wifi and no/poor cell service (Verizon).
Overall Rating: 2/5
Bug invasion kind of ruined experience, but ocean view great
WARNING MOSQUITO invasion! I am use to mosquitos but OMG I have never seen swarms like this. I was on a 2 week tent camping trip and had to leave right after arriving due to the number of mosquitos. They were in the car for hours and it took us the rest of the day to smash them and get them all out of the car even with all the windows down. No amount of bug spray or incense worked. Not a place for tent campers but might be okay for RV if you don't plan to get out.
