This spot is a nice sized turn out at the top of 24 about a half mile before the coordinates that are listed. Stayed in this spot over the 4th of July and didn't have any neighbors nearby. The views looking out over the lakes and Independence Pass are super sexy. As I've stated in my other Twin Lakes review, I love this area and its one of my favorite spots in Colorado. Don't forget your fishing pole, kayak, hiking shoes...there is a lot to do here.

I moved into this site late in the day on Memorial Day as the crowds thinned out and headed home. This is a popular site among regular campers to the area because of its breathtaking views, relative ease of access, and it offers some protection from the wind. The driveway to the site is just past the first big bend on Country Road 24 after the first ascent.
The views from this site overlook Twin Lakes Reservoir and the surrounding mountains. Wildflowers start to appear in early June all around the site. I would love to be here in the fall to see the mountain sides ablaze with Aspen. It would be really tough to beat this view and at the same time get decent cell phone reception.
4G was mostly good, about 2 bars of Verizon without the booster and full bars with the booster. Strangely, the signal seemed to get fickle without the booster in the afternoons. There was no TV reception at this site, but I am using a cheap antenna.
This is an excellent site for solar - lots of space for full exposure. I easily remained charged with just 200w of solar panels, each day.
Two of the things I enjoyed the most about this site were the size and privacy. Although another boondocker could join you, they likely to join you, especially if you made the site look used. My dog loved the space to roam and play. A driveway to another site, that would be suitable for tents, only, continues past the main site and was a nice place to walk the dog and offers less obstructed views up the lake towards Independence Pass.
Road noise was occasionally noticeable but the loudest sound you hear is the wind through the trees. I did occasionally hear music from a site on the hill above me.
The driveway is rather rocky and I do not recommend it for low-clearance rigs. It would be difficult to maneuver a bigger rig to turn around if the site is occupied, so you might want to jump out of your vehicle and walk down a bit to see if someone is there first.
This site made me feel like I had a mountain home for 2 weeks. I can't wait to go back to this site!

If you can claim the spot at the map pin, you got one of the best places you can imagine. Huge views of twin lakes below and the mountains beyond. Don't let the road in scare you away, it is worth it. We pulled a 27 foot trailer up.
Be warned, don't expect privacy. People come up all day long to take in the view as well. Some will camp right beside you.

This was the perfect spot for our week long stay in the mountains. Getting here was easier than I thought it would be - the roads were all paved except for a stretch of gravel road that was surprisingly free of the washboard effect we encounter on so many back roads like this.
The space we chose was right off the main road, at the highest point - with a huge expansive view of the mountains and the lakes. We had tons of privacy and ample space, even when the weekend campers arrived. Another bonus - we had Verizon coverage here! I would definitely stay here again and again!

Get your dog snooping sensory perception out and be sure to look for the overlook spot.
The cell service will pour over you like the nightly thunderstorms. The amount of catholes across the street rivals the pinholes cut in the sky by the stars. And the town of Twin Lakes is cuter than a button sewn into a baby's naval.
Enjoy!

A beautiful place to spend a few nights. The road is paved almost all the way here. Maybe 200 yards of dirt road to get to the best views. A little steep and bumpy at first but it evens out. Plenty of fallen wood to collect for a fire.

This is what boondocking is all about! Gorgeous views, no one around, free, and I had great Verizon LTE signal so I was able to work without any issues!
I was shocked that no other campers were here when I arrived on a Wednesday, a few showed up before the holiday weekend kicked off.
The dirt road was a little intimidating for me, some large ruts and massive stones. But I SLOWLY towed my 23' Airstream up to the very top site. It was more than worth it!!

Like others said, the dirt road may be a challenge for some, we used 4WD and took it slow and no issues.
We parked by the 2 lone pine trees, very exposed to the wind. We would get big gusts during the day and at night, coming from the Northwest. Don't put your awning out, the gusts came with no warning.
Another small RVer already parked about 200' above us, by the trees. And a class C towing a Razor showed up on the second day. We got here on an August Sunday afternoon.
The views are some of the best we have seen. 1 hour drive to Aspen (YOU CAN'T DRIVE THIS ROAD IF YOU ARE OVER 36' LONG, they will fine you and tow you out, very very narrow and nasty sharp turns), and 25 minutes to Leadville.
Verizon works great. We are finally catching up with Netflix after boondocking in Salida and Leadville.
$5 dumping and fresh water in Leadville.

We stayed here Labor Day weekend ‘18 and got here Friday morning to secure a spot. There ended up being two open spots all the way up until Sunday. I was surprised honestly but I guess the weather wasn’t supposed to be the best. There’s a nice hike across the lake where you can see an old 1880s resort (around 5 miles round trip?). Totally worth the easy hike! We fished in the reservoir right there (walking distance from the spot we were in), really great spot! Also there’s Leadville 20 mins away or the small town of twin lakes 5 mins away where you can pick up bait or something to eat from a trailer place called punky’s.
