“Enclosed by towering rock formations”
Indian Cove is located 13 miles east of Joshua Tree Village and 10 miles west of Twentynine Palms on the north side of the Wonderland of Rocks. Indian Cove Road dead-ends at this secluded area. A sprawling campground is enclosed by towering rock formations making the area popular with rock climbers. Many campsites are tucked around the rocks, providing naturalistic tent camping. Other sites offer space for RVs. There is a separate camping area for groups. Campers register at the ranger station located at the entrance to the Indian Cove area. Water is also available there. On the west side of the campground, the half-mile Indian Cove nature trail features the plants, animals, and seasonal Indian occupation of the area. A picnic area is located on the far eastern side of the campground. Indian Cove is noted for the large number of mature Mojave yuccas and shrubs that grow there. Colorful spring blooms are especially striking against the sand-colored granite rocks.
If you like looking at amazing rock formations, and bouldering your way up to scenic views, then this is the place for you. I'm not a climber, but there were lots of people to watch going up the faces.
Simply amazing landscape! Very peaceful in August. Every star at night, including the Milky Way and shooting stars. Nice heavy duty smooth concrete tables at the sites.
There’s some incredible views from here, but I only gave it 4 stars because you cannot access the rest of the park from here. You have to either hike out the Indian cove trial which is about 7.5 miles or drove out of Indian cove and then go back in through the west entrance
Great campsites. Most enjoyable & peaceful sunrise I've ever had !!
One of the largest campgrounds in the park, Indian Cove is also one of the easiest to get to from the major highways. Add that to the fact that it hosts 13 group campgrounds, more than any other part of the park, and what you've got is one hectic place to pitch a tent. Reservations accepted, open year round. Please enjoy the campsite photos of Indian Cove campground in Joshua Tree National Park. We will continue to add more campsite photos of the campground if some are not available.
So cool that you can sort of hide your tent among the rocks and yucca trees. Plus this site has space for RVs, and running water. Plus, the stargazing at night is unbeatable!
