We stayed one night, March 2, 2016 at this small BLM campground. Each of the 5 or so dry camping sites had its own covered picnic area, trashcan, tree and BBQ grill. The camping area is a very large, level gravel lot. There are a couple of full hookup spots available but when we visited they were having trouble with the electricity. I'm sure they're fixed now because the electric guys showed up bright and early to diagnose the problem.

We were charged only $3.50 a night since we had the National Parks Annual pass.

The clean restroom had flush toilets, sinks with cold water, hand soap dispensers and air dryers. We watched a pair of roadrunners while we ate our breakfast.

The petroglyphs are simply amazing! Over 21,000 have been identified and cataloged. Sadly, there were many examples where someone tried to chisel them off the rock to take home or sell. Other rocks showed feeble attempts at creating new glyphs. Scribed initials were also found throughout the site. Human beings can be so so so disappointing!

The park ranger/volunteers told us about more collections of petroglyphs further afield than the ones on the short marked trail (3/4 mile). If you are interested, ask about these. For the motivated and trustworthy, they're definitely worth the trek.

As seems to be the case with NM parks, the sunsets were stunning and just kept on giving.

We had great 4 bars of Verizon LTE. We would have stayed longer, but we were sorely in need of a shower, which we found at Valley of Fires State Park. Yay!

I agree with the previous review. We stayed there on 9-27-16 and after the day time traffic calmed down there were only three campers that spent the night. Some things changed in that they got a new building to check in instead of that little trailer looking building. There were also some new signs on the entrance. I had been there previously only to look and not camp but this time got to spend a relaxing evening watching the sun go down and take pictures. Early in the morning we got to hear Elk off in the distance and the coyotes were active all night. The only thing they could improve is add a shower to this facility. The other two campers camped in the dry camping area as we did so no one was using the electric sites. We also used our National pass and paid $3.50 for the night. I will be adding a few new pictures of the place. It is a great place to spend the night.

I agree with previous reviewers so just adding my 2 cents.

Very nice visitor center with beautiful art work. The camp host was friendly and knowledgeable - so nice to meet hosts like that!

I do wish they had a dump station, but other than that, no complaints.

Bathrooms could use an electric outlet and cleaning after the day use guests (many). But for 1 night on the way to Bosque del Apache NWR its hard to beat! Listen for the "poor whil" bird calling at night.

We had planned to only stay here before our other campground became available in December. When we got here we knew we had found a gem of a place and we had to stay an extra night. The views from this campground are INCREDIBLE. This was by far one of our favorite places to camp. The sights are clean, they have a covered picnic area next to each campsite. It is quite dusty but from our camper to the picnic area with a rug we managed no dirt in our camper. The hike up the petroglyphs are so beautiful. In December there was only one other camper and lots of day hikers. The hosts Sharon and Hardy were so welcoming and helpful and very knowledgable about the area. To see sunset here is worth the visit. The bathrooms are clean, no showers on sight and no dump station but at the visitor center at Alamogorda has a free dump station apparently. You can't take dogs on the paths but we found other walks around the area. The Valley of Fires (volcanic site) is about 30 minutes away (you can take dogs). Three rivers is a must see!!! There is park fee also but we had a park pass so it was free.

This is a wonderful little campground on the edge of the Tularosa Valley. I stayed in one of the two sites with water and electrical hookups and a covered picnic table. There is also one space without hookups signposted "RV parking only", and a number of tent sites that were occupied occasionally by small class Cs. I paid $9, with 50% off for my NPS senior pass.

There is a good paved road all the way in from US-54. Traffic was negligible, mostly farm tractors, so the campground was very peaceful. There were sonic booms occasionally from F-16s out of Holloman Air Force base in the valley, but I rarely heard any jet noise.

Everything was spotlessly clean, and the hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable about the petroglyphs. The views from the top of the petroglyph hill are incredible. You can see all the way down the Tularosa Valley to White Sands, which must be 50 miles away.

There was a tame roadrunner called Rocky, but he never stood still long enough for me to get a good photo. One morning, he perched on my awning arm and watched me through the open window. There were elks bugling in the evenings.

Verizon service was excellent, with 4 bars, 9 Mbps of 4G download, and 5 Mbps up.

...this is your place go. Only three spots for RVs of all sizes, two with water and electricity, one without any hook ups, are available. Very clean place, restrooms available and very clean, no showers, no dump, internet available but unsteady between weak and zero.

$9 with National Park Senior Pass.
Nice, small, quiet, and remote campground.
Two short trails to see the hundreds of petroglyphs.
Water and electric at the two designated RV sites. Dry camping in the eight or so other sites. Big rigs will fit in almost any of the sites. Paved road and entrance, gravel parking. All relatively level.

Great for stargazing. Very little light pollution from the valley, so the night sky is really dark.

I am only here for two days because I am touring the VLA (Very Large Array) near Magdalena, NM. I would stay for a week or more if I could! The petroglyphs are amazing! (2) water and electric sites are $18/night ($9 with Senior pass). Boondocking is $7/night. Hardy and Sharon (camp hosts) are very nice and informative. I highly recommend this place.
