An easy, unique, yet beautiful hike through multiple segments of tunnels with openings throughout the trail that offer views of Donner Lake.
Originally a train tunnel, it's roughly a 5 mile hike and are around 150 years old, peppered with interesting graffiti. There is a lot that people often used adjacent to the tunnel entrance located across from the ski slopes. I do NOT recommend parking in this area if it has been snowing since this lot is not at all kept up with, so you will get stuck if you don't have four-wheel drive. Inside the tunnels gets pretty dark but manageable to some extent without a flashlight if your eyes adjust to the ambient light. During my hike in March, the tunnels had quite a thick layer of ice to tread on so it's helpful to bring chains for your shoes or something to better your traction.
