The Sugar Pine Trail is a nice summer hike or an excellent early autumn hike to view the changing colors! The trail follows Sugar Pine Creek for 3.1 miles to its confluence with Coalmine Creek. Dogwoods and rhododendrons offer brilliant displays of flowers in the early summer. Old-growth Douglas fir, western hemlock, Pacific yew, and vine maple provide shade in the hot summer days. Sugar Pine Creek pools in many places, providing cool refreshment for wading. The natural arrangement of the bedrock in this creek is a spectacular sight! NOTE: This trail is not recommended for young children. Hiking during early spring or late fall is also not recommended due to high water flow that make it difficult to cross the creek safely. Due to the low volume of use this trail receives limited maintenance. Expect to encounter downed logs and brush.
