We originally reserved a site that was on the outer part of the peninsula, however the site we reserved was extremely out of level. We looked around and had a hard time finding many spots on the outer peninsula that were level and big enough to get our bus in easily.
The spots on the first part of the peninsula seem to be much newer and they are all very level. There are also a few pull through spots in the front section. The spots are a little tight but we were there during the off season and there were only a handful of RV’s so not really a problem for us. We were able to move to a water front site which was nice. Turns out this part of the park is first come, first serve. If all the park were like this section we would have given 5 stars.
Once we got a good spot, the park turned out to be a great stay. We were steps from lake. The internet access was great which is always a nice bonus (keep in mind the park was pretty empty). We also had good 4G coverage and received several TV channels over the air.
We were about 25-30 min from the sites in Chattanooga and there were nice grocery stores just 10 min from the park.

The lady at the front desk was very polite. she told me I could drive around and look for a site before I decided and came back and paid for it. This place is very very big with lots of sites and you have lots of choices. There's a beach on the lake and even though we do not have a lakefront site we can clearly see the lake and it's just a couple feet away. It is quiet here. there are lots of people with dogs and lots of children. so far I like it. There's a Walmart close by we will hit tomorrow for needs. We are full time RV living.

Some of the interior roads are not big rig friendly. Last year we drove through 1 of the areas on the island that were pull through...they must only be for small campers and tents. We had to remove our ladder to squeeze past a tree.
This time we knew where to go! Right on the lake, quiet & peaceful in the winter. We only saw 1 other camper in the area. The rest seem to gravitate towards the area by the entrance. Nice big playgrounds. Con is there's no sewer and some spots are uneven.

We picked a spot right by the playground for the kids to use some energy. The playgrounds are large, which was great. Lots to do on the LA. The park is massive, but I imagine in the busy season could feel crowded. It was only maybe half full when we stayed and felt nice and roomy.
The bathhouse right near site 62 was old and run down. The bathhouse that had the laundry was much nicer. Washers and dryers $1.75 each.
Check in staff friendly and the cost to stay very reasonable. No sewer hook up and thankfully the dump point isnt in the park itself, so no blocking roads etc to dump.
Our site was not very level. We had the drawer sitting almost on the ground to get it level.

We stayed here for a week. Arrived on a Thursday. We were in Site 142 until Sunday. We hated this site. It's in an area of the campground that is basically a parking lot. No trees. Sites are on top of each other. Zero privacy. On Sunday we switched to site 181. Right on the lake. We parked in a huge pull-through with 3 other rigs. There were stairs down to our gravel picnic area by the lake. Lots of space between us and the sites next to us. It was perfect! The campground is really big, lots of different kinds of sites to choose from. I would recommend avoiding Sites 124-144. If you choose carefully, this place is great. Friendly office staff. Rangers patrol regularly. Gate closes at 10pm. Lake is beautiful and huge. Walmart Neighborhood Market close by. 30 minute drive into downtown Chattanooga too!

Really nice park but a bit away from the city and we were visiting friends in the area so 25 minutes each way.
Nice newer bathhouse with privacy and good space.
New policy that some sites are 7 days only so we were in full sun with 90 degree temperatures when there were some space available on the water with some shade.
Would stay again but would need shade with peak temperatures.

The price paid reflects a senior discount. Our site, 179, is a "pull through", but really it's just a pull out along the small loop road. There are three of these pull out sites along this little road and when we arrived, I couldn't see how to get past the camper in the first site to get to mine on the other end. We ended up backing down the road into the site. I'm probably over cautious though. I see now why this site said absolutely no slide outs. If we had slide outs, the middle site campers wouldn't be able to get by!
Other than that but if oddness, the campground is really nice. We have water and electric, the dump station is a bit of a drive in this very large park, but not too bad. The WiFi is some of the best I've seen for any campground private or public! There is also good cell signal. Quite a few sites in our section have water views or are directly on he water. The bath houses are fairly clean and there are plenty of showers to choose from. It's about 25 minutes into Chattanooga from here. I would definitely return!

My wife found this spot here on Campendium. The GPS took us through some narrows residential streets but once we got here I was very impressed. You have to go into the Ranger hut and set up an account on the computer then you can check for available sites and check them out before you decide. We found many of the sites to be very uneven but we took site 173 which is right on the water.
The sites have a picnic table, fire pit and lantern holder. A guy comes around and sells a wheelbarrow full of wood for 10 if you want a fire. Close to Chattanooga so a drive in to explore is easy. Great cell and tv reception. Overall nice spot

I don't know, this place gets a lot of 5-star reviews and I am honestly not sure why? I suspect your experience depends on what site you get (site 12 was cramped and bordered by a swampy area) and the weather (it was really cold during our stay), but overall, I did not find the campground all that impressive.
The thing that irked me the most - and what dropped my review from 4 to 3 stars - was the complete lack of walking/biking trails around what is a very large park. There are two distinct camping areas separated by a road and a beach/boat launch area separated by another road. You would think that the spread-out nature of the park would be a great opportunity to put in a sidewalk, bike lane, or even a simple dirt path. But no, the only option for getting from one area to another is to walk on the very narrow, no-shoulder road with cars whizzing past.
Ultimately, we would stay here again if in the area because it was convenient to Chattanooga, but otherwise I would not go out of my way to spend time there.

We were here November and December 2019. The park is very big and is focused on lake type activities. No hiking trails however a real nice disc golf course. Showers are large and clean. No sewer hook ups at the sites. Your experience will definitely be determined by the site you end up in. The are some gorgeous sites down by the water and some not so great sites. There are three different camping areas to chose from. We were in the furthest from the office.
