Confirmed by 6 users | Last reported on March 27, 2024We stayed at Tin Valley Retro Rents in February of 2020. There are pros and cons.
First the cons.
1) You are a long way from town and from the entrance to Big Bend.
2) Things are dusty.
That's it. That is all of the cons.
Now the pros.
1)Stunning views! You are in a valley so you will watch the sun come up over the mountains and you will watch it set over the mountains and both events are spectacular.
2) Night sky! I've never seen the night sky like that, I've never been this far from light pollution and I was just awed.
3)There is no cell service. You will have to go to the Willy Nelson bus for wifi. I put this as a pro because this is a place that sets you free. But by going to the Willy Nelson bus every day we were able to use wifi calling to check in with family members so it was fine.
4) The owners are wonderful, generous, fun people! They go the distance to provide top-notch hospitality. Whatever you need, just ask, and if they can help you they will. You feel like you are staying on the property of friends while you are there.
5) Random wildlife! You will likely see deer and lots of rabbits! We did see one road runner as well.
6)Sampson the burro will sing at random times and the sound will bring a smile every time!
7) 30 amp and 50 amp hookups because you depending on the time of year you go, you will probably want AC in the daytime or heat at night, or even possibly both!
8)Water delivered to your site! Instead of water hookups at each site, water is delivered daily. No need to have an empty water tank.
9) Easy to access dump station right by the Willy Nelson bus!
10)Peace and quiet, this is a place that feeds your soul.

Tin Valley Retro Rentals is a diamond in the rough! Owner Ronda has transformed Airstreams, buses, retro RV’s, and even a VW Beetle (the Cuddlebug) and Land Yacht into amazing places to stay. At Tin Valley you’ll share your stay with a donkey, some pigs, chickens, dogs and cats. It’s a pet friendly atmosphere. Along with the retro rentals and tent sites there’s amazing RV parking and new to Tin Valley, Van Lifer parking spaces. This is not your standard RV park, the RV parking spaces are spread out not packed in tightly. The sites are spread out so you’re not looking directly into your neighbor’s window but instead at the immaculate unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains. Two of the tent sites have their own artistic touch complete with A-Frame style lodging so you can leave the tent home if you’d like. The Land Yacht site is the only clothing optional site here as well, where you can feel free to feel free. Each site has it’s own fire pit and charcoal grill. There’s an outdoor shower here, or nearby showers, laundry, pool and cafe at the neighboring Terlingua Ranch. Artist Jules Muck has put her own touch on Tin Valley transforming what would normally be just a renovated RV into a work of art. Stars will shine brighter here than you’ve ever seen before without the city light pollution nearby and it’s an amazing sight. You can hike up the two mountains closest or take a walk around Tin Valley. Take time to head to Big Bend national or state parks in the Terlingua area. The center of Terlingua also has a ghost town complete with walking tour. In that area you’ll find bars and restaurants, Cottonwood, the nearest grocery store, or the closest place to fill up on gas. A visit to Terlingua and Tin Valley Retro Rentals won’t disappoint. You won’t’ find another place this original, or with this much space to rent to call your own as an RV’er, camper, or retro renter. This truly is a hidden gem that should not be missed. It is a little out of the way but if you are looking for peace and tranquility and of the grid this is the place for you. Cell service is very limited possibly nonexistence depending on your provider. WIFI is available next to the Willy Nelson bus if you really need to stay in touch with the world. The spots are well spaced with picnic table, fire pit, and electric. If you need water make sure you bring some in or get the portable water next to the dump site. When we were there the campground had fire wood for the fire pits with honor donation pot. If you visit Tin Valley make sure you meet "Sampson" the donkey, the pigs and chickens. One final note. Make sure you follow the directions provided so you don't get lost with the limited cell service and navigation apps not working well.

Thank you Campendium!! Without your app I would have missed this amazing “out of the way” funky, friendly, fun site.
Our stay , in spite of a hitch catastrophe on the entry into property( no fault of Tin Valley Retro) it turned out to be a one of my favorite stops ever! Everything you look for in a RV stop, plus some! Management was over the top, and a huge help dealing with my hitch failure resolution. Sites are secluded, quiet, scenic and extremely well kept and spread out for privacy. Great for all types of visitors including families with kids, who can interact with farm animals. Also have several rental sites with equipped units and great car & tent sites. If your on your way in/out to Big Bend NP plan a few days to experience this ranch RV stop , you won’t be disappointed.

We stopped here after leaving Big Bend on our way to Quadalupe Mountain NP in January. We only planned on staying 2 nights, but it turned into 4. Would love to go back one day. It’s a few miles off the main road, but worth it. So quiet.

Ronda gives detailed instructions on how to get there and what to expect. There are hookups for 30/50amp. Dump station and water are available. If you don't want to move your RV they will bring water to your site and there is a honey wagon you can use. Sites are gravel with inground fire pits. 2 chairs are by the fire pits. BBQ grill is also at the site.

Rhonda is super friendly and helpful. Love her little farm. Electric hook up and dump and water nearby. Wifi available. Spots are far enough away from each other to give privacy. 1 hour from park if using paved roads. There is a back road for 4WD which seemed shorter. We enjoyed our stay.

When we arrived on Sunday Night it was already late, Rhonda greeted us and let us pick whatever spot was open. Since we had booked through Airbnb spot 7 we chose spot 7. The spot was not level, however we made it work. The other spots looked pretty level, I would recommend the level chalks you can get off Amazon. We ran out of water once and the owners delivered some and filled our tank. Overall the place is very quiet and relaxing. I would definitely recommend it.

The location is perfect to be away from it all and have some peace and quiet. Pretty close to Big Bend NP (about 1 hour from Panther Junction Visitor Center). Host was very friendly and responsive! I originally reserved only 2 days but asked host if it was possible to extend for another. It was no problem! Beautiful mountains all around and perfect for stargazing at night. Site was spacious and private. Nice fire pit. Electric hook up was wonderful so we could explore the National Park without having to worry about the heat inside the RV for our cat that we travel with. Booked on Airbnb and had no trouble. Host gave ample amount of directions so you would have no trouble finding it without service. Highly recommend this one!
