Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on February 06, 2020We chose to stay at the Corps of Engineers campground because half of the spots are first come/first served. We have found that finding a reasonably priced campground on the weekends in Spring in Texas is impossible. It's prime camping season. So we opted to arrive here on a Wednesday and had no trouble getting a spot.
Our rate reflects our National Parks Senior Pass (50% off) on 30 amp electric. It would be $22 for others. Be very aware when you pick a spot if you are getting 30 or 50 amp. We over looked that and ended up on a 30 amp site and had to watch our electricity consumption during the course of the week. 50 amp sites are a few dollars more. Some sites have screened in shelters which are considerably more. All sites have water whose pressure could vary depending upon how many are in the park...but nothing to keep you away. There is a dump station.
Roads are paved and the sites are have concrete pads. All sites are back-in. Most sites have shelters over the picnic tables. As I said, some sites have screened in shelters. The sites are VERY large. No one has a view of the reservoir, even though you are camping right on the edge of it. There were some makeshift paths leading down to the shore of the reservoir, but I opted to not try those.
When we were there, the grass really, really needed to be mowed. The workcampers/gate attendants (very nice people) told us that the rain had kept the mower away. Some locals who came in for the weekend actually brought their own lawn mowers to mow their sites. That was a first. So the long grass pretty much kept you to your concrete pads. But the wildflowers growing in the grass were nice to look at.
We didn't try the bathrooms, so I can't address that. There is a boat ramp and many of the weekend visitors brought boats.
OTA television brought in 54 stations from Austin, including all the major networks. Verizon was 2 bars of LTE. Data was good, phone calls would occasionally cut out for a second or two.
Google maps tries to bring you in a road that has a locked gate. The real entrance is .5 miles east of that.
Taylor is close by with all the shopping you need, including a Wal-Mart and a H.E.B. The downtown is quirky and worth a visit. Austin is close, but not as close as you might think. A drive to the southwest side of Austin took an hour to get there.
We would certainly stay here again.

The facilities are clean (though old like most federal facilities). Access is easy. Very level spots. Quiet and spacious. Good price.
Some spots are shady, spot 14 and 15 are not shady but both have great views. You can access a little private beach from spot 14 (and 15 too if you are daring), 15 has a better view and is very level.
The swimming beach nearby is nice and very clean (didn’t checkout the restrooms).
Circleville Store and Restaurant down the road is definitely a cultural experience that anyone from out of state needs to have.

Came here to try out a rental travel trailer, as we are newbies at this. We chose our site for our reservation based on online park map and Google satellite.. ended up with Site 3, which had more trees than most, as far as we could tell. Our stay was pleasant, though the heat kept us from doing much hiking or birding. Our dog seemed to like it too. The cell coverage (AT&T) was not great - 1 bar - but we managed.

We stayed here on our recent stay to Round rock area ( approx 30 min drive ) it is a nice private entry park clean and nicely spaced lots. We loved the covered benches they even have a black water flush hose hooked up and ready at the dump station.
Approx 1 hour drive to Austin area. Internet worked great lots of down broken trees sadly from the recent ice storm but they had them moved away from sites we enjoyed seeing all the deer every night right by our campsite
We stayed in sight 14 it is on the corner large paved even site

We have had great experiences with COE parks but this is not one of them.
Cons: Access roads, 908 and 1331 are terrible coming from the southeast. There is no gate, so anyone can drive in. We arrived at our site to find trash and snacks (potato chips and chocolate) on the ground. Spent 15 minutes picking up trash. Park is close to Austin so crowds are a given. Grass needed mowed, its was 8-10 inches tall and gone to seed. Grass was so bad, people were bringing their own mowers. Bathrooms and showers are close to the worst we have seen in a COE park. Shower water was tepid. Our water faucet had a small standing water pond around it, about 3 feet in diameter. Obviously had been leaking for quite a while. No camp sites on the lake. No hiking trails in the park.
Pros: Site pad was level, pavement with a flush concrete curb. Lots of restaurants and stores in Taylor about 15 minutes away. Utilities worked OK. Large roofed cover for picnic table was nice. Good hiking trails up the road at Taylor and Willis Creek parks.
AT&T cell service was fair but sporadic, 2-3 bars of 5G which allowed us to stream with a booster, sometimes. We did lose cell service a few times. Worked some days and some days not.
Overall, a poorly maintained park, not worth the drive.

We camped here at the end of March. It was busy on the weekends but still spread out enough to be peaceful. The camp is large enough to be able to take nice long walks along the roads. Our price reflects the NP Senior Pass.
There is a nice swim area, boat ramp, fishing dock, and Louie Mueller’s BBQ is about 15 minutes away:-).

Last minute weekend trip. Very quiet and well maintained park. Had a site with a lake view. The site was level and clean. The sites are spaced out so your not on top of each other. The gate staff is very friendly. There is a boat ramp, fishing pier and a swim beach in the park. This was my fourth time to stay here and will definitely be returning.

Loved my stay here, large sites, well spread out, some shade. Verizon strong enough to stream movies. Wildlife everywhere you looked. Thought the dump site was going to be a problem, but the concrete to the drain was well sloped so everything went where it was supposed to, did have to use the jacks to lift one side an inch to finish dumping.

We stayed 2 nights. We were at site 24. The closest site next to our was at least 100 ft away. The site closer to the lake were closer together but still spacious. Weekend is full. Easy to get sites on the weekday. Level site with covered picnic area, grill and fire pit. Easy to find wood in the area for a fire. The only downside was there were no trails or walking area.

Great Corp park. Well spaced sites, level. “Comfort station” was clean and had hot showers but did not use them. Lots of families on the weekends but quieter during the week. 45 minutes to downtown Austin.
