Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on February 16, 2021MacDill is a very large, several hundred campsites, all in a basic grid pattern. Paved streets between the grassy campsites, (to be maintained by campers), with concrete pad next to two lane of pavers for camper to park on, picnic table, no fire ring, power box with light for evening hook up, water, sewer, cable hook ups. Some sites have nice shade which comes in very hand during hot days. No real privacy between sites. Several pages of rules to agree to follow including a point system for infractions leading to removal from campground. Large laundry room with over dozen washers and dryers-yet "dirty", lots of lint exhaust. $1.75/wash and $.25 for 8 min dry.
Close to beach area, marina with lots of options for renting. A restaurant close by too. Majority of campers were long term, 6+month campers. Ok camping~
Tucked in the back of the base, MAKE sure you come in the main gate! GPS took me to Bay view Dr gate which no rv's are allowed to enter. Not many signage once on base showing where to go.

Due to hurricane Dorian (Sep 2019), the park was not too full. Campers that had been there prior to my arrival vacated. The pads are relatively level. WIFI was readily available however, I used my Verizon hotspot occasionally because I was encountering intermittent connectivity problem with the WIFI. The showers are old and even though it appears they could use a good cleaning, I did witness them being cleaned. They just look dumpy. The staff was friendly. There was a laundry facility that I didn't use. There is propane at the Marina which is adjacent to the camp grounds. You've got to cut the grass in your camp site. How weird is that? There was a club building near the camp ground but it was closed. Looked like it was being renovated. Wished it had been open. It's a 2 or 3 mile drive from the camp grounds to the BX or Commissary.

No hot water in the bathhouse which means no hot water for showering or laundry. Took a week for a sign to be posted stating no hot water. When you ask about hot showers you're told to go to the fitness center. Good customer service does not exist at this FamCamp. When will the hot water heater be replaced? Rumor is sometime next year. Why not rent a shower trailer in the meantime? Let's mention cleanliness for a moment, trash in men's room is overflowing, at least 5 bars of soap and numerous shampoo containers on the floor in the men's shower area. Base preventive med personnel should make an unannounced inspection, because certainly no one in the FSS comes through to ensure folks are doing their jobs. First and last time staying in this FamCamp which seems like a 65 and over gated and closed community.

Arrived on a 1st-come, 1st-served basis and spent one night in dry camp. Got a full hookup site the next day, sadly next to a junction for the sewer system, so occasionally slightly smelly when outside (no problems inside trailer). The spaces are closely-spaced, concrete pads surrounded by grass. Bathhouse and laundry room appeared relatively new and were very clean (cleaned twice a day). Overall I’d rate the facilities as quite good.
Customer service needs work. The website is not clear about the difference between getting a reservation (can stay up to 180 days) and arriving on a 1st-come, 1st served basis (rotate between dry camp, partial hookup, and full hookups as need and availability dictate, expect you can stay on a full hookup for 2 weeks). I also found the staff to be pleasant to speak with but did not have a sense of urgency in getting people out of dry camp ASAP.

We couldn’t have been happier since we came in after hours. Good night staff helped us set up and was very friendly. Had to call on his assistance again for power luckily I had a 50 amp to 30 amp dog bone. I am still working the kinks out on the cable TV. Again I know this is only our fourth time out. I could see us coming back again soon.
