“wonderful historical landmark”
The historic Susanvillle Railroad Depot was built by Southern Pacific Railroad in 1927 and is a wonderful historical landmark that marks the cultural heritage of the region. The Depot also serves as the main trailhead for the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail which is a converted railroad track that follows the old Fernley and Lassen Branch Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, winding 25.4 miles from Susanville to Mason Station. For the first 16 miles, the multi-use trail follows the rugged Susan River Canyon and crosses the river 12 times on bridges and trestles and passes through two tunnels. It is also a designated California Watchable Wildlife Site# 34.
Come here for maps and info on the Bizz Johnson trail. There's not much to see in Susanville so don't miss this little gem. There is also a farmer's market in the parking lot on Saturday mornings. Read more
