While migrating south we found this site on a competing App. Thought we would try it. The North Eagle CG was closed for the season so we parked at this dispersed site right on the side of Hwy 139 North of Susanville. Very near the highway along the shore of the lake (low water, actual lake is now 1/4 mile away. Hated the drive from this site to Susanville, will never travel this road again. We will instead stay on Hwy 395 and camp at Ramhorn BLM CG.

We have stayed here several times because we often travel from OR to Truckee CA. It is a small turn-out on the Eagle Lake side of CA 139. It has no ammenities except being right off the road with a view of Eagle Lake, and it is free! There has never been anyone else here when we have camped here overnight.

This year the lake is fuller than we have ever seen it, so it is much closer to the camping spot than in past years. There are also several spots across CA 139, but we are too big to fit there. We have never found this spot to be unclean, even though there are no trash cans. We see wildlife near the lake, especially hawks hunting. There isn't much traffic after dark, so not a lot of road noise. Our Dish tailgater worked fine.

We prefer to stay off major highways and therefore travel CA 395/139 heading either north or south. We don't have any problem with CA 139 - it is a two-lane road with no shoulder and is obviously steep in parts as it goes over the mountains, but the scenery is beautiful.

We stayed here on our way south. I spotted this small BLM pull out just before approaching the lake using Google Maps then later found it here on Campendium. There was a small pull off just to the left of the highway heading south. We were towing our car and had enough room to loop in and turn around to face the lake. We stayed here in May 2019 in our 32 ft class C (with car). There was a beautiful sunset over the mountains across the lake. Very few cars passed through here after dark so it was very quiet. There was also a decent 4G signal. I would stay here again the next time we pass through here.

After reading the reviews on this location, my wife picked this one for our trip between Tahoe and Bend. Access to the lake is direct although we chose to only drive in about 50 feet before heading south a bit to find a flat spot heading south (our van door opens on the right side). So we parked on the lake side of the highway. The sunset view west over the lake was beautiful and made even better by the recent fires in northern CA. Highway noise is close but only a car every 10 mins or so at 9pm. Plenty of lake gnats and some mosquitos at sunset. be warned! :) Great spot for free overnight.

I’m on my way to AZ for the winter, but need to stay in CA. to see friends and pick up a package in Sacramento. I needed a place to be for a few days and this worked out perfectly! EZ Acesss, Great Verizon Service and basically nobody else around. Be careful close to the lake! The ground is really soft and (according to CHP) it sounds like people getting stuck happens fairly regularly!

Love this place. Reluctant to write a review as the place has few visitors. Wonderful view as sun sets behind the mountains and clouds reflect light onto the lake. Stayed 2 weeks in June and another 2 weeks in August. This is a fishing lake that is down due to drought so no boats out. Pay campgrounds on west side with dump station. Susanville about 30 minutes south with Walmart & grocery stores with lots of fresh organic food. The access driveway is easy to miss and short and steep. Go slow. Easy to bottom out coming and going. Highway is 2 lanes and locals drive very fast, so signal well before you turn.

SR 139 is just nearby, so if you park near the road you hear it, buta large evergreen barrièr separates you from road. I pulled my 25 foot travel camper in here- no issues with soft ground. Actually some medium sized lava rocks are mixed with dirt to help it stay solid.
Didnt venture near lake with TT. North Eagle Lake up road was still closed for winter in mid-May. so this worked out perfect.
