Yes, it looks a bit bare bones as many RV parks within site of an interstate do, but don't let that deter you. Warm and friendly owners, full hook up sites, free WiFi, clean bathroom with hot water showers, and they honor Passport America's discount. We pulled in after dark and the owners did not hesitate to sign us in and help us get situated. Even an hour later when I went to their door as I had forgotten to get the WiFi password, the greeted me with a smile, code already in hand as they anticipated my question. There is road noise, but far less than I expected. The south end of the Petrified Forest National Park has an RV park right near the entrance, but for those of us needing something on the north end, there isn't such an obvious and easy solution. But a mere 10 miles west on I-40 we found this Root 66 RV park, and it worked out quite well.
NB: yes I gave this place a 3.4 out of 5 star average despite several run down buildings on the lot and the lack of views, but I always balance the star numbers against the cost and convenience.

This is a VERY basic, somewhat run-down park which is basically a big dirt parking lot right off I-40. There are a total of 22 sites which are all tight together and have no real privacy or "sitting area", plus there is pretty constant road-noise from the nearby highway. The main reason to stay here is to see the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest and for that purpose it works fine. You'll get full hookups only ~16 miles from the North Entrance. Plus the hosts are nice, the laundry is decent and the free-range chickens (one rooster, one chicken) provide on-going entertainment for humans & cats.
On-site WiFi worked sloooowly during the day, but was unusable at night when the park was full. Verizon signal was terrible (2 bars 3G), but ATT was good (4 bars 4G)
NOTE/ Make sure you have Passport America since the full price on sites here is $33 which is more than the park is worth IMHO. At $16.50 it's a very reasonable overnight stop.

So funny, found this in the Passport American book...was excited because it is now called Sun Valley RV Resort....from the highway you can see the old 66 sign. It’s great with passport America, half price, any day of the week, any time of the year. The young owner, Samantha is a darling girl...talks nonstop, and will bend over backwards to help you. So much energy, you almost don’t want to use your discount, because I’m sure they could use all the full price they can get.

Checking in was easy even though it was after hours.
There were plenty of spaces available on a Thursday night. This is the closest RV PARK to Petrified Forest National Park.
There is a laundry room, tv room that offers free popcorn. A bathroom (no showers) and a convenience store that is only open from 9am-5pm.
If you bring your kids there is a playground that is a little bit outdated but my girls (7-9) had plenty of fun playing on it.
Dogs are welcome.
The highway is literally 20 yards away. A lot of noise but to be honest that didn’t bother us at all.
We will be back for sure.

First off, let me say the staff are great! Very friendly and helpful. The thing this RV Park has going for it is that it is convenient to the local NP and other local attractions and that it take Passport America ($22/night), so the price is right. The park is right next to I-40 so it provides easy access, but that comes with freeway noise. The sites are level and provide FHU and are easy to get into. We had a back-in site (#12) which faced the access road and the open prairie. There's only about 8' between each site, so very tight. This isn't a park you stay at the 'rest and relax', it 's more of a quick stay for a night or two.

Owners are friendly and helpful. They are new owners and are working diligent fixing up this park. Only a few 50 Amp rest are 30. Sites are level gravel. WiFi is okay. There is a dirt dog park and small playground. About ten minutes east of Holbrook for dining and groceries.

We stayed here for one night as we were passing through. This RV park has a lot of potential, and you can tell the owners are working towards making it a more pleasant place to stop.
We experienced some hiccups while we were there. A storm just passed through and took out our electrical, so we had no power at our site or the sites next to us, but were able to run the basics with propane. The owners were nice and helpful. Our neighbors moved to a site with running power, and we decided to stay put for the night because we had a long day of driving with our baby.
Our gravel site was pretty level, and we utilized their dump station before we left. The club house area was open for people to watch tv and hang out.
My biggest complaint with our stay was the amount of noise we experienced. The park is close to the highway and the sites are very close together. Our neighbors kept opening and closing their doors and talking outside, and we were so close, we could hear everything. At one point, someone even honked their horn. We have a baby and it took me hours to get him to sleep, and even then, he kept waking up.
If the noise wasn’t a big issue for me, I would totally stay here again as we pass through. But for the middle of no where, it’s a fine stop. We felt safe and everyone was very friendly and helpful.

Closed down...looks abandoned
Drove by here on our way to Holbrook for the night and looks like this place is no longer open.
This used to be the Root 66 Campground; we stayed here before and found the price value relationship good. Not any more. We chose this campground (over others nearby) because they were listed on Passport America. We paid cash and got a 'discounted' rate of $35. The place is badly rundown and it appears they may be going out of biz.
This campground is located right next to the interstate, so easy to get into/out. All the buildings were boarded up so we couldn't tell if there was a usable shower house. The county road, immediately in front of our site, was very busy and there appeared to be no speed limit.
