The history of the mill dates back to 1886 when Jim McCaskill purchased and installed machinery for the mill. The mill produced soft wheat flour and provided a place for local farmers to get their wheat ground without having to travel to Barricklow, located by the town of Eunice. The Summersville Mill is located just east of the Summersville square. The Summersville Mill has undergone a huge restoration in the last few years, thanks to the Revitalization and Action Board of Summersville and the many volunteers from the community who have worked on the project. Summersville Mill was awarded 4th Place in the 2009 Community Betterment category. Visitors to the website can view photos of the project on the gallery page. Today the mill is used for special events as well as an attraction. Picnic tables and a pavilion are located on the grounds around the mill for public use. The pond is also available for catch and release fishing. Tours of the mill are available upon request at no charge, donations are gladly accepted.
The mill looks pretty cool. Stop if you are only interested in a picture. This mill is not open for tours or anything, so you can only look at exterior of building. The grass was mowed so we could walk around. There is a pavilion with picnic tables near by if you’re stopping for a picnic.
