“one of the best trout fishing streams in the Black Hills”
The Spearfish City Campground is a beautiful shaded campground nestled along Spearfish Creek, one of the best trout fishing streams in the Black Hills. The Campground is located adjacent to the D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery and Spearfish City Park. Within walking distance of the campground is downtown Spearfish, public laundry facilities, grocery stores, hardware stores, and the Matthews Opera House. The campground has restrooms, free showers and also contains amenities such as pop and ice machines, pay phone, Internet access, picnic tables, grills, and a sewer dump station. There are 62 sites that may be reserved; 56 full-hookup sites and 5 premium sites. The full-hookup sites include electricity (30 & 50amp), water, sewer, and cable TV. The premium sites offer the same amenities as the full-hookup but they are wider, longer, along the creek and a little more private. There are also approximately 150 non-hookup sites. These are on a first-come first-served basis (excluding the rally). You are welcome to call and check on availability to see how full we may be but we do not take actual reservations. We will take reservations for the Rally for non-hookup sites.

Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on September 15, 2022I was a little tipsy, I'll admit it. The family had gone to sleep and I was reminiscing on the day's adventures. As no campfires are permitted, I found myself engulfed in the trappings of my cellular device.
Suddenly, something felt off. Slightly foreboding.
I looked up from my communication device, peered into the silent quiet of the park, but alas, nothing.
I returned to hashtags and instatweets. Then I felt it again, that cold snap to raise the hair on your chinny chin chin. Looking up, there he was.
I shart you not, a wolf stood proud before me, not as under my awning as I was, but let's just say if it were raining, his nose wouldn't be getting wet.
I stood up, dropped my phone, a let out as manly a cowering "Hey!" as I could.
He did nothing. Not a twitch. I suppose I'm not as frightening as I'd like to believe. He was almost all white, with a silver "saddle" patch on his back. I tried again, "Get out!"
Then I saw his friend. Similarly marked, but brown with the same saddle this time only black.
The two wolves then turned around, as if uninterested entirely, and walked into the night.
I trembled with the sort of delight one might have from a healthy desire to be afraid of and simultaneously desirable of being attacked by wolves.
As an RV park goes, it's just okay. You can walk to town and they make Crow's Peak IPA nearby, so if you're not into wolf encounters that's a plus.
Nice park. $10/night in the off season. Solid Verizon coverage. 4 bars 18.84/9.20 Mbps down/up on a Verizon JetPack

We stayed just one night at the Spearfish City Campground on our way to the Black Hills and I really wish we’d had more time here. It’s now on the list for a return visit. The campground was well maintained, the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the grounds were lovely. We had no idea there was so much to do in the area!
We were in space #30, which is considered a premium site (pull-through, FHU-50 amp) so there are less expensive options. There isn’t a lot of privacy/separation between sites, but each has a fire pit and picnic table and grassy area. Some sites are along the creek. Large, well-trimmed trees throughout the campground. The park has both RV and tent sites. It is adjacent to the Historic Fish Hatchery, bike and walking trails, and a lovely city park. We had 4bars of 4G and the park WiFi actually worked!
The town of Spearfish looked interesting and we would have liked to do some exploring. We did have an excellent meal at Trader Dough Pizza Company (cash/check only).

Wow, what a pleasant surprise. A beautiful park on the Spearfish Creek and another stream. Flat, grassy park with full hook-ups, clean bathrooms with showers, situated next to the city park. There is a historic fish hatchery at the entrance. You can walk to town from here. We are planning to come back. Did not realize that the Black Hills were so beautiful!

Spent couple days here off-season before spending 5 months in volunteer section of the park. Beautiful spot with Spearfish Creek thru the park. Busy during Sturgis rally in August and most weekend. Hot showers avail. City park just steps away and easy walk to downtown. WiFi and cell occ. iffy as you're in a little canyon. well-maintained by the city and clean.

This is not your typical city campground. Staff very friendly, walking distance to town & the historical fish hatchery. Fabulous walking trail around the camp. Water is everywhere. We opted for full hook-ups, but there is also dry camping on green grass available. Dump is easy to get into to. Water is also available for those who want to dry camp. The hook up section is on gravel. We were able to get satellite service at our site. The do offer cable TV hookup all included. The only downside of this camp, is that the full hook up sites are typically close to each other. The dry camping is more spaced out, also fewer takers there.

This was a very nice campground. Staff pleasant and welcoming. Full hookups but dry camping available as well. Bathrooms and shower area clean and modern. Sites are close together but staggered so there is some privacy. Site 3 where we camped is near the river. Lovely view. Nice walking Paths.

We really liked this spot. It was very quiet, right across the street from the fish hatchery, and only a few blocks from the main strip. Tubing Spearfish Creek was a blast. Our kids didn't want to leave. The only complaints are that you are stacked on top of each other and the fire rings are in odd spots. Bathrooms were clean, and there are good bike paths heading up stream.

Sweet, city campground. A creek boarders it, and the property is well maintained...only complaint is some of the sites are close and/or tight to back into. Fish conservatory is across the street, as is a large city park with a great playground. Stores close by. Great little campground.
