Wekiva Falls RV Resort

We had tires put on our brand new (to us) coach in Apopka on Friday and wanted a convenient place to regroup from a whirlwind week.

Wekiva Springs state park was close by and our first choice, but a last minute spot was a pipe dream to say the least. The staff there did however, recommend Wekiva Falls.

We found the staff very organized and friendly and this 800 site park from all appearances was a tight ship. Both cell phone service and wi-fi was sketchy at best.

The sites are very spacious and it appears capacity is never reached as we were there on a busy Veterans Day weekend, and while quite busy, there were plenty of available sites and best I could tell, all were full hook ups including 50 amp, water, sewer, and cable tv.

The swimming area in the river is very unique and appears welcoming although the sulfurous water is pungent. It is however, crystal clear, revealing a fine sand bottom.

Good location covenient to the I-4 corridor. We would return if in the area, probably not a destination i n and of itself for us, but the many full-timers in residence for the winter see value at the price and were a friendly and active community.

This RV Park is nice, located in a beautiful area about 45 minutes from downtown Orlando, and an hour to an hour and half to Disney. Full hookups (water, electric, and sewer). There is onsite dog play area, pool, store, 2 laundry facilities, Tiki Bar, and "water park". The staff is very friendly, lots of families and children. It's clean and relatively quiet during the week. The main attraction is the natural spring head they turned into a "water park" (not a real water park but it's still cool), with slides and large swimming area. There is a DJ every weekend and it gets packed. It's an even mixture of people passing through and full timers who live there. We camped here before we were able to travel full time in the RV (when we still had our brick and mortar jobs). We enjoyed our stay there and loved hanging out in one of the tiki umbrellas grilling and cooling off in the spring. This place is nearly or totally full each winter, but that's Florida for you!

Huge property with lots of unique amenities. Zero lot line spaces, some with trees and natural features nearby.

I can’t understand how this place gets 4-5 stars.
Parking on grass or sand. No defined site separation. Wonky electric, water and cable connectivity. Office will even say that the free WiFi is horrible. Predominantly “old cousin Eddie” RV’s. Junk everywhere. Sulfur Springs are pungent. No hot tub. Small pool. $2.25 for laundry.

Some sites kept losing electricity. This place double dips $ when they open up the park to the public. Lots of shady looking individuals. Many sites running businesses from their campsite.

They ONLY plus is the location within the city.

We had a large grass site with a concrete pad and picnic table. We did need a 30 amp extension cord.

Nice place. Had some heavy rain and some of the sites got muddy. Laundry facility was OK. Some of the machines were not on the “pay with your card” thing and the change machine did not work the whole time here. The gym is small but has some good equipment in it.
The people that work here have been great. It’s a clean and a very nice place. The bar tender at the tiki hut is very friendly, had a lot of fun there. The tiki hut grill is a pretty cool little place too. Good gator bites. Kayaking the wakiva River is a must

This is a very large park with a lot of full time residents. Parking spot was on grass with very little shade. The main springs are pretty but I understand it is a sulphur spring and you can smell it!
On the weekend a lot of day use people come in to enjoy the springs but they do keep the pool private just for RV park people to use. Laundry room was so so and was not air-conditioned.

Wekiwa Falls resort is a nice RV campground, we entered as a walk-in (enough spots still free on christmas eve day). The staff and people we met on site were very friendly. The bathrooms and showers are clean but a bit outdated. There is a outside pool, a sulphur spring (you get used to the smell) and you can rent a kayak (which we recommend, we saw lot of wildlife). The road and grass sites can be very muddy so we had to park on a paved spot. Luckily we had the Passport America discount because otherwise it would be very expensive.

What’s with all the panel/cargo utility trailers? They had me stand at the office desk and read/sign six pages of rules and restrictions. Then, looking around from our site, I can see many restrictions broken on sites all around us. Why waste our time with passive/aggressive documentation for regulations not being enforced?

We felt unimportant as soon as we saw our site. The utility side of our site was jammed up against considerable accumulation from one permanent resident and the recreation side faced the plain white wall of a utility trailer, backed by the firewood industry of the permanent resident on the other side. Sites lined with old campers that clearly haven’t moved in years with cargo trailers in front of them and then a vehicle in front of that. Fire wood is sold just a couple sites away, which is very convenient, until they run the engine driven, hydraulic log splitter Sunday morning for three hours. It seems, along with a premium site, the seasonal rate buys the right to be as messy and rude as you would like.

We made this reservation a year ago and requested a specific area. On arrival, we felt like there is a loyalty club and "we ain’t in it”. It felt like they do not care what site you want unless you are a returning, “permanent” resident (a term I heard used at the office). The water was out one day and an email was sent addressed to “Guests and Residents”. There should be a qualifying rule or regulation on the use of the word “resort" in a campground title. This is a campground on the verge of becoming a trailer court. I’m not sure any amount of bingo can fix that.

There were a number of ongoing construction projects barely touched during our one month stay. The main water feature of the park, the spring and ensuing lagoon, have a section cordoned off with construction tape (pictures included). Tiny home cabins are being added, but were in various arrays of incomplete installation with little progress during our one month stay.

To be fair, I was going to include pictures of a camper so far gone its slides were sagging, but they tore it down with construction equipment and hauled it away in a construction dumpster. Clearly, they are trying to maintain appearance. Someone in the past put a huge investment in the infrastructure of this park, evidenced by the massive concrete pylon which raises the output of the spring at least 20 feet. It seems current management/ownership is overwhelmed in the magnitude of upkeep requirements.

The park has a nice pickle-ball court, the nicest shuffle board court I’ve ever seen, and ultra-modern laundry facilities with machines that can be run and paid via smartphone app. The Magnolia Club is nice and the activities staff is genuinely engaged with the guests. We met with other guests for a free donut, a taco themed carry-in dinner, and several exercise events. The main hall has a piano, but ragtime is all it is good for. We saw jam sessions, sewing and quilting sessions, and always preparation for events. The swimming pool is heated and clean. The three pool tables are rickety and worn. Out of a dozen pool cues, two had tips and I could have found a straighter tree branch outside. The library is large and caters heavily to puzzle assembly. The dog park is adequate and the dog wash station is nicely set up adjacent to the dog run. It’s nice the dog park and gym are close to one of the laundry facilities, so we can have a workout or play with the dog while the laundry is going.

Most disappointing is the real park compared to how it is represented on the website. The clean concrete and paver site photos on the website represent 10 sites of the advertised 569 full hookup sites. The map of the park shows color-coded differences in standard and premium sites, but when checking in, we were told everything on the north side is premium, as we were escorted to an all grass site that was unleveled side-to-side by four inches.

If you need a place to park your camper, a 15-30 foot utility trailer, your truck, your car, and a few broken down vehicles you just can’t part with; this place is for you. I expected better for my $1000+ monthly fee and felt as though there had been a bait & switch.

We chose to stay here for a month and our plan was to do Disney World with some weekend trips down to Fort Meyers and Miami- maybe the Keys- while we just kept our rig here. Well that plan came to a screeching halt with COVID. We ended up spending the entire month in a progressive shut down mode. By the time we left, all the amenities were closed- much like the rest of the country.
I am so glad we stayed here though, because they were awesome!!! The first week of our stay, everything was open. I can say that the pool, dog park, playground, Pickle ball courts, and market were everything I needed to give 5 stars. The staff was so helpful in keeping our 2 parties/rigs right next to each other and even gave us a discount on premium sites just to keep us with our parents.
This place really feels like a resort with the lagoon, amenities, events, DJs, etc.
Sites 145-153 are great and quiet. I would also ask to drive around and view the available sites before checking in, as this can make or brake your stay. I read some of the reviews before coming in and I was a little nervous about our stay, especially with it being a month long. There are some sites that shouldn’t even be sites and some that are mixed in with permanent residents who have not kept up with their mobile home/rigs.
