Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on April 16, 2022Rim Road south is a seasonal road that is gated when muddy. The area around the gate can be very rutted, but beyond that it is a hard road of dirt and volcanic rock. While we did not need any 4X4 or high clearance, this may change by the season.
The road has many dispersed options, some being pull through and some back in. Most are suited for smaller rigs but medium sized travel trailers or 5th wheels may access a select few of the sites. Some sites did have broken glass, so be careful if you have a dog.
The area has numerous hiking and biking trails throughout and borders on Reservation land. Please respect these boundaries as they are very clear due to a fence line.
The area nearest the trailhead did not have any coverage, but it improved upon moving up the hill. The area varied between none to 3 bars of Verizon 4G and none to 2 bars AT&T 5G.

Entrance is marked by Show Low city limits sign when driving eastward. Be prepared for a cold night. It’s over 6,000’ elevation. I’d stay there again. Suggestion: block your site with your vehicle if you can, to prevent wayward campers from thinking it’s a driveway.
OK overlook, primitive camping, no services, no reservations, no garbage, no water, no bathrooms, no waste service.
