“small lake, easy to reach from Redding”
Here’s a small lake, easy to reach from Redding, that is little known and rarely visited. MacCumber Reservoir is set at 3,500 feet and is stocked with rainbow trout each year, providing fair fishing. No gas motors are permitted here. That’s fine—it guarantees quiet, calm water, ideal for car-top boats: prams, canoes, rafts, and small aluminum boats. There are seven sites for tents or RVs up to 30 feet (no hookups) and five walk-in tent sites. Picnic tables and fire grills are provided. Drinking water and vault toilets are available. Leashed pets are permitted.

This campground is owned by PG&E. Located two miles off CA Hwy 44 near Shingletown. Lake McCumber Reservoir, across the road from the campground was built by PG&E. This tiny campground is tucked away in a heavy forest of tall redwoods. There are eight RV campsites and five walk in tent sites. Parking is available directly across the street for the walk in tent sites. For $18 a night you rent a little bit of heaven. Water available at several locations in campground (no filling of fresh water tank). No electric but generators are allowed from 8:00 A.M. till 10:00 P.M. Fire pits and picnic tables at each camp site. The RV sites have paved pads. There is no dump station. Check in 2:00 p.m. check out 11:00 a.m. Vault toilets. No showers.
Campground host is extremely conscientious, kind, helpful and friendly. He takes keeping this campground clean and in top shape very seriously.
Instantly I regretted that we only reserved two nights. Reservations can be made at: Recreation.pge.com
