This review is for the Sam Stowe Campground, which is for RVs (full hookups). The small campground is nestled at the base of cliffs that are adorned with petroglyphs—there were several we could easily see from our seats by our campfire. One site is pull-through with a fair amount of privacy, the rest are back-ins and are a little less private, though there is some foliage between them. The restrooms were among the cleanest I’ve ever seen; they are thoroughly cleaned once a day, then touched up throughout the day as well. This year’s camp hosts were amazingly friendly, helpful, and considerate.

The campground is less than a mile from the visitor center, and many of the points of interest are between the two: it’s a great bike trip, you can catch several points of interest/trailheads along the sparsely-traveled paved road.

The only downside is that Verizon was iffy at best even with a booster, and AT&T service was non-existent.

Dogs’ perspective: This forward-looking park not only allows, but WELCOMES dogs on ALL trails. There is even a trail that starts in the campground and travels up a narrow canyon beside a little creek that’s perfect for cooling off paws. Beware of the nettles and poison ivy, though.

Stayed early November and had the place nearly to ourselves other than the camp host and a resident park volunteer who were both super friendly. Very close to I-70 but quiet and tucked up in a canyon. There's lots to see and several nice trails nearby. Great spot!

Sam Stowe campground is a campground inside the Freemont Indian State Park. The park has many different petroglyphs visible in the park. They have several nice displays depicting the Freemont Indian history of the area. There is a nice museum at the park. There are 2 campgrounds in the park. Sam Stowe campground has full hookups and since it was going to be colder weather we stayed here for the power hookups to keep things from freezing. The spaces are large and wide with good barriers between the sites. There are 2 cabins available to rent. There is also apparently a mocked up Indian pit house that may be available to rent as well. Good paved roads to the campground and well maintained gravel roads and spots in the campground. There is some noise as the I-70 freeways runs through the intersecting canyon. Restrooms and showers were clean and well maintained. Showers are coin operated so if you plan on using them come with quarters ready. Five quarters for 4 minutes. We will stay here again. We have stayed in the other campground, Castle Rock, and it has nice spots but no hookups.

We decided to do a winter trip in Utah and started at this campground. Great find. Right off Hwy 70 so a little noise but not bothersome or frequent. Camp Host Ken was great. He's been in the area for 8 years. Gave us great insight on the area and where to go. There are other campgrounds in the area but this had hookups and the wifey wanted the furnace which was a good idea. It got down to 19 degrees at night. There was bits of snow everywhere. Site 2 is a pull through and the other 6 are backup sites. Fire ring and camp table. Lots of room for the dogs to explore. There are also cabins and a replica pit house you can rent. Pit Houses were the Fremont Indians dwellings built into the ground and completely covered in dirt with a entry on top with a ladder. Bathrooms were heated with flush toilets. We stopped in to the visitor center and paid for our site. The visitor center has an excellent museum and gifts to purchase. Lots of trails to explore either on foot, bicycle or ATV. Right next to the visitor center is a paved trail that shows incredible Indian rock art from that dates as far back as 3,000 years ago. We hiked from the parking lot and back to down to visitor center. From the campground is a trail that had snow on the trail. It lead to more rock art! The night sky was clear and the stars put on a show. Not much cell coverage at the campground. Definitely coming back in the summer to explore the other trails!

space #1, easy pull in and out for our 37 ' rig. We were parked right next to a huge rock wall which had petroglyphs on it. A really good picnic table and fire pit. We really liked our site. Wish we could have stayed a day or two more. Water and electric and sewer included.
The museum was very cool and had so much information about the area it was really nice. The only cell service was in the parking lot of the museum but that was not that important to us. The history here was fascinating . Campground was clean, did not use the restrooms but the building was large and looked to be in really good shape. Lots of trails to walk and history to learn. Beautiful Clear Creek runs through this state park. We never saw any wildlife except lizards!
You will hear a little bit of freeway noise but not enough to bother you.
Across the freeway is another camp ground that we drove through called Castle Rock and they have water but no electric but you are really in a cool canyon with trees, creek and most sites had pretty good privacy. Not too many to fit our rig but smaller trailers or tents.

Rented an 25’ RV from Cruise America. Little knowledge to this all new world. Called on way up and talked to very nice lady. Booked it and in a hour and a half we were here. Absolutely beautiful. We go to Lake Powell a lot and this campground reminds us of it. Beautiful cliffs surround the very quiet and serene campsite.

Right off I-70. Small campground with gravel road and pads, tucked up in a beautiful canyon. The Fremont Indian Visitors Center and Museum is a mile up the frontage road. Many trails to hike around the area. We road our bicycles up the road, very little traffic. There is noise from I-70 but it wasn't that noticeable. Showers are 1.25 for 4 minutes. Full hookup sites. Very quiet in late Oct. The town of Richfield is about 20 miles away and has plenty of places to restock groceries (Walmart, Lins Grocery).

This place is really beautiful! Small campground with one main excellent trail, great facilities. Near interstate but very little noise. We stayed as an overnight stop but wished we had planned to stay longer as there looks to be much do do in this area. We decided to visit the museum on the day we left (FYI there is RV parking) but as we pulled in three school busses of kids were in progress of unloading... that changed our mind but we will come back, stay longer and visit the museum. Our RV space was not level, front to back or side to side, which was frustrating to us since we didn't want to un-hook. This wouldn't keep us from staying in this exact spot next time when we would un-hook our rig and stay longer. Highly recommend this place.
