The Athenian was first opened by three Greek brothers, about 1909. Starting out as a bakery and a luncheonette, it was one of the first restaurants in Seattle to be issued a liquor license, for beer, in 1933. The sign over the front door is the original one, hung there over a half century ago. From a bakery to a tavern and then to a restaurant, the Athenian’s story is typical of the growth opportunity of our country. Throughout it’s history in the Pike Place Market, the Athenian has been the crossroads of people from all over the world and a haven for those who have found their homes and futures in the Great Northwest. This restaurant is located in the heart of Pike Place Market. My friend’s and I were seated with a gorgeous waterfront view within 15 minutes, despite the fact it was a busy Sunday afternoon.
I ordered the baked goat cheese and the rambling route cider. The goat cheese was AMAZING! Everyone enjoyed their meal.
Server was friendly and service was great. As a Seattle native, I don’t often eat in the heart of pike place market, but it’s definitely worth it.
Great food, great view! The seafood lasagna is a must
Great food! Must try the Crab Cake Benedict for breakfast.
