Iconic Attraction

Our Take

Seattle, surrounded by mountains and water, is a city with a beautiful setting, and the best way to really see it all is from its iconic Space Needle. Built for the 1962 World's Fair, it has that certain retro-futurist style, and has recently been updated with lots of study glass to further enhance the views. If you wanna dine like a baller, treat yourself to a meal at the restaurant at the top.

“Join us 500 feet above ground!”

The Space Needle is 605' tall and was built for the 1962 World's Fair. The Space Needle Celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2012! Still ahead of its time, the Space Needle features breathtaking views of the Seattle area and beyond. Journey skyward to the Observation Deck for 360 degrees of indoor and outdoor viewing at 520'. You can also join us 500' above ground at our world-famous revolving restaurant - SkyCity. The Space Needle was built for just $4.5 million, and has had its share of milestones, including numerous weddings and a jump by six parachutists. During the World’s Fair, nearly 20,000 people a day traveled to the top. The Space Needle hosted over 2.3 million visitors during the Fair and is still, over 40 years later, Seattle’s number one tourist destination. In 2000, the Space Needle completed a $20 million revitalization. The year-long project included construction of the Pavilion Level, SpaceBase retail store, SkyCity restaurant, O Deck overhaul, exterior lighting additions, Legacy Light installations, exterior painting and more.

First off the parking is what you would expect from a downtown area..
That being said it is an absolutely spectacular view from the top! Its not overly expensive compared to similar buildings in other places in the US but the best part (speaking as a photographer) is that you can bring a tripod up and take long exposures during blue hour and you won't be hassled. Really cool experience. It also looks great from all over the city!

So, the Space Needle is fun and you get really up there. The elevator is quick and the elevator people are funny and nice, usually college students. I would suggest going toward the evening, you can see the lights. There are telescopes that are free to view.

It is really pricy. You can have a decreased rate if you go early and late. Check the website for times. http://www.spaceneedle.com/home/

It's WELL worth it to buy the tickets that also get you into the Chihuly Garden and Glass. It is absolutely amazing and night time really brings out the colors. Check out their website at http://www.chihulygardenandglass.com/

A great piece of iconic American architecture. You can see it from many different parts of the city. While it's a little pricy to go to the top, the view is totally worth it!

Yes, it's an icon and, yes, the view is great, but I'm not sure it's worth the cost. I lived south of Seattle for four years and didn't do the Needle until I came back as a tourist, which was true for many of my native friends. I'm glad I did it once, but probably never again.

Nice architectural piece, makes city landscape unique. I would not go on top though for the view. There is a restaurant, so may be for that. For the view, go to the top of Columbia tower.

The revolving restaurant, Sky City, is romantic and provides an amazing view of the city, but it's super expensive. Warning: Sometimes the wait to go up the elevator to the top can be over an hour long. I recommend buying tickets online to avoid long waits.

I visited the Space Needle when I was in Seattle for an interview. It was a pretty cool to see the panorama of Seattle. The bar at the top had some really good local beers.

The guides were really great, and had a lot of information about the area. Be sure to ask them for tips on good places to eat; they know the best spots around.

We really enjoyed the Space Needle. We purchased CityPass tickets to visit all Seattle had to offer, worth it, just walk up exchange your CityPass ticket and your in! Get there early or the night before stop and get tickets as the time stamped entrance tickets get sold and you may have to wait to get to the top!
